Fresh Express has recalled certain varieties of its salad products due to a possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall affects both Fresh Express branded and private label products originating from its facility in Streamwood, Illinois.
Affected products were distributed to retailers in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the country, along with the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba, according to the company.
Consumers who own any of the affected products are being urged to discard them and, according to Fresh Express, can get a refund at their original place of purchase.
Michigan Department of Agriculture Received Positive Listeria Result From Random Sample
The recall is being put into effect after the Michigan Department of Agriculture received a positive result for the organism, which can cause infections and other maladies, from a random sample of a single package of Fresh Express 9 oz. Sweet Hearts salad mix.
In addition to Fresh Express brand salad products, certain Giant Eagle, Little Salad Bar, Marketside, O Organics, Signature Farms, Simply Nature, Weis Fresh From the Field and Wellsley Farms products are also part of the recall. A full list of the affected products can be found here.
The product had a use by date of Dec. 8 and had been manufactured at the Fresh Express facility in Streamwood, according to the company.
Fresh Express says it has halted all of its production at the facility and is undergoing a “complete sanitation review.”
The company also says it has been in contact with retailers and distributors to let them know to remove the potentially affected products from their shelves and inventories.
Customers with more questions can contact the company at its Fresh Express Consumer Response Center by telephone at 800-242-5472.
In November, Dole Fresh Vegetables recalled four of its garden salads due to a possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
