  • Who: Sunny Dell Foods has recalled one lot of its Rao’s Homemade Brand Roasted Red Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms.
  • Why: The jars may contain undeclared pine nuts.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Sunny Dell Foods has issued a recall of one lot of its Rao’s Homemade Brand Roasted Red Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms, as the jars may contain undeclared pine nuts.

The recall was published on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website Feb. 22 and applies to 12-ounce jars of the product with lot number SD21160-03 RPOA and UPC 7 47479 00110 6.

According to the recall, the affected jars of the condiment may contain undeclared pine nuts, and people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the products.

“Consumers who have purchased 12-ounce packages of ‘Rao’s Homemade Brand Roasted Red Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms’ condiment are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the recall states.

Only the identified lot is affected, the company said. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the problem, Sunny Dell said.

The company is not facing legal action over the Rao’s recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Product was accidentally mislabeled, company says

The recalled jars were distributed across retail stores in the Northeast U.S. and through mail-order e-commerce, the company said.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered condiment product containing tree nuts was distributed in Rao’s Homemade Brand Roasted Peppers with Portobello Mushrooms jars that did not reveal the presence of pine nuts.

“Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by an accidental mislabeling during the production run,” the company said.

Meanwhile, Sovos Brands has issued a recall on jars of Rao’s Made for Home Slow Simmered Soup, Chicken & Gnocchi, as some of the jars of soup may contain undeclared egg.
