Planters nuts Publix recall overview: 

  • Who: Planters is recalling specific lots of its Honey Roasted Peanuts and Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts distributed to specific Publix and Dollar Tree distribution centers. 
  • Why: The Planters nuts recall comes due to potential exposure to listeria.
  • Where: The Planters nuts Publix distribution went to Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina; Dollar Tree warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia also received the recalled nuts.

Hormel Foods is recalling two specific lots of Planters nuts after the nuts were distributed to Publix and Dollar Tree in a total of five states.

The Planters nuts recall includes Honey Roasted Peanuts and Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts sent to Publix distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina and Dollar Tree distribution centers in South Carolina and Georgia.

The recalled 4-ounce Honey Roasted Peanuts have a universal product code of 2900002097 and a best by date of 4-11-25. The 8.75-ounce cans of Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts have a UPC of 2900001621 and best by date marked 05APR26.

Listeria is a form of bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the Planters nuts Dollar Tree recall.

Healthy individuals suffering from listeria infection may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer stillbirth or miscarriages.

No reports of illness, Planters nuts recall says

Planters says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

No other Planters varieties are impacted. Customers should return the nuts for a full refund or exchange. Customers can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations via email, via chat or at 800-523-4635 from 8 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Trader Joe’s parent company Wenders initiated a March recall for several lots of its Trader Joe’s Nuts, 50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews due to potential salmonella contamination.
