Costco recalls overview: 

  • Who: Sunnyvale Smoked Meats recalled a Kirkland half-ham product, and Orgain recalled one of its protein powder products, both sold at Costco. 
  • Why: Sunnyvale initiated its recall over concerns the half-ham product may have been contaminated with listeria; Orgain initiated its recall over concerns the protein powder contains undeclared sesame.  
  • Where: The recalls affect Costco members nationwide. 

Two companies initiated a pair of recalls for items sold at Costco, including a Kirkland half-ham product and an Orgain brand protein powder, over concerns of possible listeria contamination and undeclared sesame, respectively. 

Sunnyvale Smoked Meats notified Costco members Sept. 29 of the recall for Kirkland Signature Master Carve Half Ham, Natural Juices Boneless Smoked Half Ham that would have been purchased Sept. 26-29. 

The company initiated the recall over concerns the hams may be contaminated with listeria, according to the recall notice. The products are lot No. 264-4 and have a use-by or freeze-by date of January 2024 and . 

Sunnyvale advises Costco members not to consume any of the recalled half ham and to return the product to their local Costco to receive a full refund.

Orgain issues recall for protein powder over concerns it contains undeclared sesame

Orgain notified Costco members Sept. 28 that it voluntarily recalled Orgain Organic Protein & Superfoods Powder Creamy Chocolate Fudge with Probiotics protein powder that would have been purchased from Sept. 8-28. 

The company initiated the recall over concerns the Orgain protein powder contains undeclared sesame, an allergen, according to the recall notice. Orgain says it has not received any reports of adverse health effects in connection to the recall. 

The recall involves Orgain Organic Protein & Superfoods Powder Creamy Chocolate Fudge with Probiotics protein powder with lot Nos. 3212 EL 14, 3213 EL 14, 3214 EL 14 and 3228 EL 14 and with expiration dates of July 31, 2025; Aug. 1, 2025; Aug. 2, 2025; and Aug. 16, 2025. 

Consumers should return the recalled protein powder to Costco for a full refund, according to the recall notice.

In another recent Costco-related recall, mattress company FXI recalled around 4,800 Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses last month over concerns the mattresses, which the company sold exclusively at Costco, could have been exposed to water during the manufacturing process, creating a mold risk.

    WOW, some people! Their question on here is:
    “Are you affected by the Costco recalls? Let us know in the comments!” This is a notice of a RECALL. NOT a lawsuit where you haphazardly type in/voice in “add me”!!! If you have some, take it back in and get your RECALL refunds! Geez!
    I’m affected by the recall due to both the ham and the Orgain protein powder BUT they are gone now!
