Kia Warns Of Yet Another Fire Risk, This One Affecting the Brand New 2022 Carnival

A potentially serious risk of fire has resulted in the recall of the 2022 Kia Carnival.

Kia filed a recall notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In it, Kia says that one percent of the 2,774 model year 2022 Carnival minivans it has sold in the past three months may have a vehicle safety issue – damaged fuel rail tubes. The damage may cause gasoline to leak into the engine, potentially resulting in a vehicle fire, says the carmaker.

Kia Carnival owners are instructed to take their vehicles to a dealer for inspection and replacement of the fuel rail. Kia says that it plans to begin informing owners on April 30, 2021.

Although this is not a class action lawsuit, Top Class Actions monitors potentially dangerous vehicle recalls to keep consumers informed of potential vehicle safety defects.

Kia Fire Risk Recalls Mount

Kia, along with sister company Hyundai, has issued numerous recalls of vehicles over fire risks. This reported recall adds to the growing list of Kia and Hyundai vehicles recalled over fire risks. Hyundai is a different automaker, but is owned by the same parent company as Kia and many of their vehicles share the same design, parts, and engineering.

Earlier this week, in their fourth fire-related recall of the year, Kia warned consumers that more than 145,000 late model Seltos and Souls could have an engine problem leading to stalling or even fire.

In December, Kia announced that the company would be recalling almost 300,000 vehicles over a risk of fire in the engine compartment. At the same time, 130,000 Hyundais were recalled over stalling and engine fires after more than 3,100 engine fires were reported, some involving injuries and one resulting in death.

Consumers can check to see if their vehicle has been recalled on the NHTSA website.

  1. Kerry says:

Our Carnival is unfortunately among the 1% recalled for the defective fuel rail line. And even more frustrating is that the dealership, after having our van for several days “waiting on the replacement part” is now telling us that they don’t expect the part to arrive until August!! We’re stuck in one of their crappy rentals until then. How can Kia discover this safety hazzard and issue a recall without the parts available to fix the issue. Needless to say we’re angry about paying for a brand new van we aren’t even driving, and are trying to get some answers from the company, rather than the dealer (who don’t seem to know anything).
