golden retriever needs Sentry flea and tick repellentA class action lawsuit states that the essential oils present in Sentry Natural Defense flea and tick repellent are toxic to pets.

The Sentry class action lawsuit was filed by Ramona Penikila who says she purchased Sentry Natural Defense for her dog in August 2019 at a Petco in California. Allegedly, she relied on the advertisement that the product was safe for pets.

Penikila claims she read and followed the instruction for use of the product, and applied it to her dog. However, she says that after application, her dog suffered serious hair loss along with abnormal skin irritation and itching. The plaintiff states that she then scrubbed the area where the product was applied, and her dog eventually returned to normal.

According to the Sentry class action lawsuit, advertising that the product is safe for pets is misleading. The Sentry essential oils class action lawsuit says that Penikila was injured because of this false advertising in a number of ways, noting that her dog suffered physical harm from the product.

Additionally, Penikila was allegedly injured because she suffered financial harm. She says that had she known that the advertisement was misleading, she would not have purchased the product.

The flea and tick repellent class action lawsuit states that the Sentry repellent contains essential oils that are not safe for cats and dogs.

Sentry repellent contains peppermint oil, cinnamon oil, lemongrass oil, clove oil, and thyme oil. Penikila says that these oils can be toxic if absorbed through the skin or ingested by pets.

Allegedly, symptoms of essential oil poisoning include “irritation to the skin, vomiting, muscles tremors, and other more serious complications that can lead to organ failure and death.”

To support her claim that essential oils are poisonous to pets, Penikila cites an article posted on the Veterinary Centers of America website, which advises pet owners to never apply concentrated essential oil to their pets, because even a small amount could be harmful. The article reportedly lists essential oils present in the Sentry product as among those harmful to pets.

Allegedly, the maker of Sentry repellent knew that essential oils were poisonous to pets, noting that the company claims its products are “Veterinarian Tested.” However, the class action states that the company does not explain that essential oils are not recommended by veterinarians.

    AFFIDAVIT OF UNDISPUTTED FACTS

1.There are unrefuted facts concerning this SENTRY PurrScriptions Plus Squeeze-on For Cats and Kittens “Quick DRYING formula”?
    and
2.Why is it still being sold in stores when the essential oils are clearly not safe for Cats, and dogs?
    3. What is the antidote for the toxic ingredients to reverse the damages done from it’s essentials oils?

DO NOT USE ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS!!! I put a Sentry Purrscriptions flea collar on my healthy, indoor only cat and within 2-3 days he was very sick, I took it off him and washed him the best I could and made a vet appointment… But we never made it there. He died just 2 days later, early in the morning of the day I was supposed to take him to the Vet. I don’t understand how this product is still on the market!!!! I am so angry and heartbroken.

  3. Beth Evans says:

I have been out about $100 since using Sentry squeeze on. The vet says it’s same as revolution, but my dog didn’t have this rash prior to using Sentry. Nothing else has changed to cause this allergic reaction.

  4. Michele B. says:

I have used this on my dogs for 14 years with no issues whatsoever. No reactions to the essential oils, no hair loss, itching, wheezing, acting abnormal, etc. It did a great job repelling fleas and ticks. Neither of them ever had a problem. It was a great product for my girls.

    1. Michele B. says:

PS. .Maybe the formula has changed. I purchased it in bulk so what I was using was probably manufactured prior to the product that has caused so many issues for so many of your pets. You all have my sincere sympathies that you have lost your animals or they have become ill.

Just gave this to both my cats, one of them started acting strange just a few hours after the dose, she has been shaking terribly and sneezing and drooling, I’m extremely concerned for her, I tried giving her a bath and rinsing as much of that stuff off her but its so greasy might have to try dish soap. If she doesn’t get better I’m gonna have to take her to the vet.

  6. Ramone clark says:

We bought the Sentry squeeze on flea control cat medication, and it killed our otherwise healthy cat in a matter of days. This company needs to be held accountable for selling such dangerous products and places like Petco, Chewy, etc need to remove them from their inventory!

    1. Mira says:

I am so so sorry for your loss – my cat became sick after using the collar about a month ago, and died just a few days later. I did let Chewy know and they have since removed it from their website, and said they will never sell it again. They were actually pretty amazing & did make me feel slightly better about such an awful situation, I’d recommend doing the same with the liquid meds if you’re up for it, even if you haven’t purchased from them. Just thought you’d like to know ?

  9. Michelle Hoffman says:

I purchased Sentry for my cat, he lost his where it was applied and pulled out his hair on back half of back. Melvin scratched himself to he would bleed and has little scabs all over his body ever since apply this in April 2021. Now Melvin is peeing everywhere and has lost so much weight and his will not grow back. I am afraid he is going to die because of this product it needs to be taking off the shelves before someone looses their beloved pet.

  10. Ron Iverson says:

I shampooed my 16 hear old cat and best friend last week with sentry. She is dying right now. Seizures, uncontrollable urinating, foaming, violent body twitching, and she is in obvious discomfort. I am watching her expire right now, and I go online for help, and instead find out that a settlement has been reached in 2019? Wtf? Why is this still on the shelves? Why is my cat suffering right now? Who am I gonna punish for making my cat suffer? Wtf are these people thinking about still selling this poison?
