Himalayan Pink Salt Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Embittered consumers lodged a class action lawsuit against Morton Salt, Inc.
  • Why: The plaintiffs claim Morton’s Himalayan Pink Salt is not from the famous mountain range, but actually mined in Pakistan.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

Morton Salt’s Himalayan Pink Salt is actually mined in Pakistan, hundreds of miles away from the Himalayas, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Lead plaintiffs Victoria Brown and Heather Blum claim Morton is intentionally misleading consumers who are willing to pay more for a product that purportedly comes from the iron-rich Himalayan mountains.

Brown and Blum want to represent a nationwide Class and California Subclass of consumers who bought any Morton Salt product claiming to have been mined in the Himalayan Mountains.

Morton Salt’s Himalayan Pink Salt Label Lies About Source

Brown and Blum allege they separately bought — and paid more than they otherwise would have — Morton’s Himalayan Pink Salt after reviewing labeling on its packaging that said it was “harvested from ancient sea salt deposits deep within the Himalayas.”

Morton’s Himalayan Pink Salt actually comes from the Khewra Salt mine in Northern Pakistan,  hundreds of miles away from the Himalayas, the class action lawsuit alleges.

“Consumers reasonably expect that the Salt Products will, in fact, be from the Himalayas. Nowhere on the Salt Products’ label does Defendant inform consumers that the Salt Products were not mined from the Himalayas,” states the class action lawsuit.

Brown and Blum allege Morton’s is in violation of California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law, and False Advertising Law

Plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and seeking declaratory and injunctive relief for themselves and all Class Members.

A similar class action lawsuit was filed in 2018 against Small Planet Foods Inc. and General Mills Inc. that alleged the companies misled consumers about the origins of their Cascadian Farm brand frozen fruit and vegetable products
