Madison Reed Hair Loss Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

Madison Reed Inc. claims that it sells salon-quality hair coloring products with ingredients that are not as “harsh” as those included in traditionally formulated hair color products. However, a new false advertising class action lawsuit alleges Madison Reed fails to warn consumers that its products may cause scalp irritation and hair loss.
Plaintiff Melissa Moore of New York says she purchased a Madison Reed “Radiant Hair Color Kit” from www.ulta.com in October 2020 based in part because of the representations that the product was free of ammonia, paraphenelyendiamine (PPD) and resorcinol. Moore says she relied on these representations and believed the product would be safer for her hair and her health.
After Moore used the product for the first time, her scalp became irritated and she experienced hair loss. If she had known that the Madison Reed hair coloring products put her at risk of scalp irritation or hair loss, she would not have purchased the products, the class action lawsuit asserts.
Madison Reed Products Misrepresented As Free Of Harsh Ingredients, Class Action Says
The Madison Reed hair loss class action lawsuit alleges the company markets itself as an “honest” company “built on integrity, innovation and love.” Madison Reed also states that it created “the first ever Smart 8-Free permanent hair color” that is free of eight harsh ingredients that health-conscious consumers seek to avoid.
Specifically, those eight “harsh” ingredients include ammonia, paraben, resorcinol, PPD, phthalates, gluten, SLS and titanium oxide, according to the Madison Reed class action lawsuit.
Moore notes that Madison Reed has “bombarded the airwaves” with a nationwide marketing campaign telling consumers that it has removed the “harsh” ingredients typically used in hair color products and replaced them with “good stuff.
Relying on the information provided in this massive marketing campaign, numerous consumers have purchased the products because they believed they were safer, gentler and healthier, the lawsuit alleges.
Madison Reed’s hair coloring products are not actually “free” of “harsh” ingredients, Moore alleges. She says that, while the products do not contain ammonia, they do contain a replacement ingredient called ethanolamine that is known to cause hair loss.
Madison Reed has also replaced some of the other “harsh” ingredients with toxic alternatives without warning consumers about the risk of adverse reactions they may pose, Moore alleges. For example, Madison Reed allegedly replaces PPD with paratoluenediamine sulphate (PTDS) and resorcinol with 2-methylresorcinol, which the class action lawsuit says are just as toxic to the human body as the “harsh” ingredients they replace
Instead of warning consumers about the risks posed by these toxic ingredients, Moore says Madison Reed has “doubled down” on its efforts to convince consumers that their products are safer than other hair care products.
Thousands of consumers have allegedly used the internet to complain about the adverse reactions they experienced after using Madison Reed products since 2016 yet Madison Reed continues to conceal the risks posed by the products, Moore alleges.

Please add me. My hair came out in clumps yesterday at the salon. It has been falling out since I signed up for a subscription. I did not think to connect it to MR because of their marketing. And then yesterday I was horrified. Stylist told me it is doing that because I need to cut my hair!

Please add me to the class action lawsuit. I purchased my Madison Reed hair dye at Ulta beauty store. I contacted Madison Reed with no results. I had 1 box left after using for one year but returned to Ulta. They never resolve anything with me either.
Please add me. I used the product during lock down. My hair came out in clumps when I rinsed it out. I haven’t used it in about a year and my hair is still coming out. Not much regrowth.
Please add me to the list. I used Madison Reed 5 times in 7 months and lost 75% of my hair. I haven’t used Madison Reed since October 2022 and it still hasn’t grown back. I started taking pictures of the clumps of hair falling out in the shower and my scalp. My hair was thick, you couldn’t see my scalp or find a part without me pushing my hair with my hands. Now my hair is see through, I have a huge growing part I can’t cover and bald patches throughout. Madison Reed reimbursed my $30 for my last box of hair dye but now I’m bald and I don’t know if I will ever get my hair back. My mother and father both had thick hair and died with full heads of hair. I have 6 brothers and sisters all with thick hair all older than me. I’m the odd man out and it happened in 7 months. I went from thick hair with my hair bands and claws were special for thick hair cuz I couldn’t use the other. Now I don’t have enough hair to use regular hair bands. Madison Reed should pay huge for making all these people bald.

Please add me as well! I used Madison Reed a year ago and started experiencing sever hair loss soon after – like in clumps! I was so alarmed that I did not color my hair for a year later just trying to repair my damaged hair. I decided to give it a try again about a month ago, and the first shampoo after the coloring, my hair was falling out in clumps again! I will NOT ever be using this this product again and throwing this product out! Now I have to work on repairing my hair all over again.
I am writing this as I just rinsed the product from may hair. I had the dye in my hair for about 15 minutes and my scalp began to tingle, itch and become irritated. I immediately went into my shower and started to rinse and wash my hair. I hope my hair doesn’t begin to fall out tomorrow as my hair is so thin in the first place. I will update tomorrow. Please add me to this lawsuit. I used Madison Reed once afterwards my scalp felt really dry and irritated. The next day my hair started falling out. I never really have shed alot of hair but since using this product my hair is everywhere. My healthy hair before this product is gone and I’m left with damaged broken uneven hair!
