Tesla semi recall overview:

  • Who: Tesla is recalling 35 of its semi trucks.
  • Why: The Tesla semi recall came because the parking brake can fail.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
  • What are my options: Advance Auto Parts carries many options for vehicle parts.

Tesla Inc. is recalling 35 of its semi trucks after an issue was found that caused the trucks’ parking brake to fail.

The Tesla semi recall calls for owners to have the parking valve module replaced on the truck at Tesla’s expense. An investigation found that the valve could cause excessive internal air leakage that could cause the electronically controlled parking brake valve module to fail, according to the recall.

Starting March 14, new Tesla semis will be manufactured with the replacement module and improved internal controls to prevent the air leakage, according to the recall. Semis that have been manufactured and not yet delivered with have the replacement module added before delivery.

Owners will be notified of the recall May 23, Tesla recall states

Tesla says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Dealers were notified of the recall March 27, and owners will be notified of the recall May 23. Since all the Tesla semi parts are under warranty, Tesla does not intend to issue a notice regarding pre-recall fix reimbursements for the brake issue.

Tesla is also facing a class action lawsuit that alleges the company has created a monopoly on parts and service for the vehicles. The lawsuit came after Tesla issued a pair of recalls related to its Full Self-Driving feature.
