Grand Design Makes Leaky RV, Provides Bogus ‘Fixes’ to Waste Warranty Period, Class Action Alleges

A company that manufactures RVs dodges liability on a known defect by providing “band-aid” fixes that don’t work to burn out its customers’ warranty periods, a new nationwide class action lawsuit alleges.

In a class action complaint filed Thursday in a Florida federal court, Plaintiff Gregory Gorecki alleges Grand Design RV violated multiple federal warranty laws and Florida consumer law in the sale and service of its Imagine Series RV.

Gorecki alleges the Imagine Series RV suffers from a defect in an exterior seal which causes water to enter the vehicle, causing damage and mold.

While Grand Design knew about the defect due to multiple customer complaints and warranty repairs, the class action lawsuit alleges the company kept manufacturing its RVs that way and adopted a practice of providing superficial fixes in order to waste customers’ warranty periods.

“Rather than honor its warranty and replace the defective components of the RV with non-defective parts or an RV of similar value, Grand Design pretends that certain ‘fixes’ will cure the water intrusion problem caused by the Defect,” the class action states.

“If a customer complains within the warranty period, Grand Design covers the cost of limited warranty repairs despite knowledge that these ‘repairs’ will hide and potentially delay, but not resolve, the Defect.”

After the three year warranty period, Grand Design strictly denies any warranty repairs, the class action states. The RV’s base model starts at about $29,000.

Gorecki says his own experience is echoed by many other buyer complaints across a range of forums online. The class action includes screenshots of many of these online discussions.

“This chorus of complaints shows that Grand Design has manufactured the RV defectively for years, and that its common practice is to only sign off on superficial repairs until the Warranty Period expires, all the while knowing that such repairs will not actually remedy the Defect.”

The class action said the leak put RV owners at a significant safety risk due to the mold, and potential inhalation of spores.

Gorecki is looking to represent anyone who bought an Imagine Series RV in the United States with model years 2017 to 2021, plus a Florida subclass.

He is seeking certification of the class action, damages and compensation, fees, costs, an injunction, interest and a jury trial.

Meanwhile, automakers are responsible for knowing about defects at the time that vehicles are being manufactured and before they lead to serious accidents and injuries.

If you own a vehicle that you believe has a safety defect and you are outside of the warranty period, or you believe the defect should be covered by the warranty and it’s not, or you or a family member have been injured by a safety related defect, you may qualify to join a defective vehicle safety recall class action lawsuit investigation. We have a 2020 GD Reflection trailer, which was purchased new from Mike Thompson RV. Probably only use it about eight times since we’ve had it but we did find water in the bathroom floor the other day. After going on the roof, I found the skylight had stress cracks around the edges and leaked rain water into the ceiling deck area above the bathroom. The floor there was soft and spongy and so I took it to the dealer to get an estimate and they want $12,900 (1/4 of the original purchase price) to replace the roof which is under a 10 year warranty by GD believe it or not!
I found another of the reputable RV roof facility on YouTube and they’re going to give me a much less expensive replacement and coatings which will have a lifetime warranty versus the 90 days from the dealer. I contacted GD to discuss why this is not be covered on the under the MFG 10 year roof warranty, and they have yet to return my call. Also, my 5 year extended warranty doesn’t cover it either.
Be happy to join a class action. It applies here.

Does anyone know of a class action lawsuit for Grand Design that we can join?

We purchased a 2021 Grand Design Imagine bunkhouse model in 2020. We thought we were getting good quality though the price was exorbitant. The slide as quit working, so took it to the dealership. They tell us it was installed incorrectly at the factory and there is no warranty, (even though we purchased the extended warranty). We are in the process of trying to get GD to cover the cost of repair, but it isn’t looking very promising. We’ve not used the RV very often and have taken excellent care of it.

Purchased a 2024 GD Imagine 15RB in August 2024. Had one leak above the outside griddle which was repaired by the dealer I purchased from, Orangewood RV in Surprise, AZ. Discovered another leak recently at the water line to the toilet. Called Orangewood RV but my call was routed to Lazy Days RV in Utah. They apparently don’t warranty GD since they didn’t sell me the unit.
Called GD corporate who referred me to another dealer. I left two messages with that dealer with no response yet.
Question: The water lines are connected with PEX compression rings. Are these fittings reliable? Should I be concerned with all the other water lines hidden behind cabinetry?

My Grand Design 5th wheel 42′ Solitude 390RK-R has had two broken slide outs in the kitchen due to design flaw of not installing the proper rollers to carry the weight. Now, the second slide broke and Grand Design has in their mind the slide-outs are not part of their three year Structural Warranty. If so, I think the word “Structural” if false advertising, and very misleading. I am open to be a part of a class action suit against Grand Design. The nails popped through the linoleum floors, they never properly sealed the roof and it the rain poured thorough the bedroom lights.

My partner and I bought a ‘Brand New’ Grand Design Transcend Xplor 247BH. The purchase was made in July on 2023. Less than 60 days into this purchase I noticed water on the ‘Convenience Center’ side of the RV in the bedroom. We go to that side of the under storage of the RV, open the panel, holy cow. Who is the idiot who thought electrical and water inlets should be in the same location? We had a puddle of water in the panel. All the electrical wires were in the puddle of water. Black mold grows on the particle board that the panel is made of. Black mold in the corner next to the bed. We are unable to use the ‘City Water’ inlet, due to the leak. We have an appointment to take the RV all the way back to where we bought it. Costing us money. Gas prices are astronomical. Again, we have had this RV for less than 60 days.
