American Honda Motor Co. manufactured and sold model year 2023 Honda HR-V vehicles containing defective rear windshields that are prone to shattering, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
A group of vehicle owners claim the rear windshields in the 2023 Honda HR-V vehicles were either made with deficient materials and/or deemed defective by a deficiency in the structure of the vehicles themselves.
Vehicle owners argue that the alleged defective nature of their rear windshields can cause them to shatter “for no reason at all,” including when they are parked.
“The shattering is so powerful that startled drivers have compared it to the loud popping noise, followed by a rain of glass falling on the occupants of the vehicle, sometimes while driving at highway speeds,” the Honda class action states.
The group of vehicle owners want to represent nationwide, California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts classes of all persons or entities who purchased or leased any model year 2023 Honda HR-V vehicle.
Honda refuses to repair or replace allegedly defective rear windshields, class action says
Vehicle owners argue Honda refuses to repair or replace the rear windshields in the model year 2023 Honda HR-V vehicles under warranty, “requiring that Class Vehicle owners pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to repair the Defect.”
“Plaintiffs have each given Honda a reasonable opportunity to cure the Rear Windshield Defect, but Honda has refused to cure the defect or otherwise has been unable to do so within a reasonable time,” the Honda class action states.
Vehicle owners claim Honda is guilty of unjust enrichment and of violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and a variety of state laws.
The plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of actual, incidental, consequential and punitive damages for themselves and all class members.
Honda was in the headlines earlier this year over a variety of recalls and proposed class action lawsuits involving the company.

25 thoughts onHonda class action claims HR-V vehicles contain windshield defect
I bought a 2023 Honda HRV and my back window blew out and I have been fighting with Honda in Auburn NY for over a year now.
It happened twice with me. Once rear windshield and once front one. Both the times the car was parked. The car was parked in the driveway and early morning around 4am we hear the rear windshield pop. Honda declined to repair it even though it was under warranty. And once the front windshield popped when my car was parked under the shade near a grocery store. When I went in the store it was fine and I came out after 5 mins and the front windshield was cracked suddenly. No explanation whatsoever.
My 2023 Honda HRV back windshield burst on my wife while she was going to the doctor on 7/11/24
July 8, 2024, my car was parked in the garage, subsequently a loud firecracker sound from the back windshield occurred. Glass everywhere and slowly the glass window caves inward. Honda initially doesn’t want to help me, but since have called me back to get it replaced. A strong pungent burning electrical smell was present before the glass shatterring.
