honda civicA Honda class action lawsuit alleges that 2016 to 2018 Honda Civics possess a defective air conditioning system.

Plaintiff Andre Wong says he owns a 2016 Honda Civic and was not informed of the air conditioning defect at the time of his purchase. Allegedly, he purchased the vehicle new and no defects were disclosed.

Wong states that over the course of three years, he brought his vehicle in for service related to the AC defect. Honda technicians reportedly tried to repair the problem but have not provided an effective repair.

The defect in the 2016 – 2018 Honda Civics allegedly causes the vehicle’s air conditioning system to malfunction and stop working while the it’s in operation. According to Wong, the problem is caused by a defect in the design or manufacture of the air conditioning condenser unit.

The Honda class action lawsuit states that the air conditioner defect negatively affects the drivers’ use and enjoyment of their vehicles. Additionally, the problem allegedly affects the safety and value of the 2016 – 2018 Class vehicles.

According to the Honda A/C class action lawsuit, the lack of a functioning air conditioner can cause health problems that expose the driver and occupants of the vehicle to an increased risk of injury or death. Allegedly, these risks are exacerbated by the fact that climate control and defroster controls are affected.

In his Honda class action lawsuit, Wong claims that Honda actively concealed the fact that the air conditioners in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Honda Civic were prone to failure. Allegedly, the company also concealed the health risks associated with the defect.

Wong claims that Honda has long been aware of the defect but makes a practice of refusing to repair air conditioners without charging customers. According to Wong, the company goes so far as to refuse to acknowledge the problem when owners or lessees of the vehicles bring their vehicles in for service related to problems with the defect.

Wong goes on to say that many drivers have requested that Honda provide a remedy for the A/C problem at no charge, but Honda fails to acknowledge the defect. Allegedly, Honda refuses to acknowledge the defect even when it occurs within the warranty period.

The plaintiff claims that Honda further recommends costly repairs to customers which they are forced to pay for themselves.

This is not the first time that Honda has faced complaints over alleged air conditioning defects. In 2012, the company settled similar claims of AC/compressor defects in some Honda Odyssey, Honda CR-V and Acura TSX vehicles. Now, customers are claiming that the problem may plague more vehicles.

  1. Joe says:

I own a 2016 Honda Civic, I had to drop 2k just to fix it. Because they have this new AC system, only the dealer can fix it.

  2. Lawrence Mester says:

Lawrence M. I purchased a 2011 crv used. I learned later that Honda had an known issue with the air conditioning compressor clutch assembly. They extended the warranty on this instead of fixing it or issuing a recall.

  3. Kim Williams says:

2016 Honda Civic. No A/C or very sporadic. I just bought it after not having a car payment for 9years, so I’m not happy.

  4. Big daddy says:

I have a 2016 hrv purchased new. We have had multiple problems with the ac/heater blower motor problems 3 different times. What can I do?

  5. Kenny says:

I have a 2016/17 Civic Lx Sedan and just recently received a letter from Honda stating that my VIN# shows that my vehicle may have a problem with the A/C condenser. The manufacturer of the A/C condenser did not correctly manufacture the the part and due to that, it could spring a small pin sized hole that could cause the system to leak. If I have had any issues please bring the vehicle in to have it serviced. Not fixed, but serviced!?! WTF?!?!?!

  6. Eric D Bryant says:

I took my 2016 Honda Civic in for A/C repairs 3 times before they actually fixed the problem. I had done my research online and knew it was the compressor and/or condenser unit. I immediately told them that’s the issue that needs fixing. But apparently Honda makes their service department go through a checklist of items to try and fix before replacing the compressor. So while my car is still under warranty and I didn’t have to pay for the repairs, I still had to suffer through bringing my car in 3 separate times before they fixed what I asked them to fix in the first place. They did not pay for a rental after the 1st time, and I was stuck at home and couldn’t work for the total of 6 days they had my car in the shop.

  7. Sarah says:

The a/c on my 2008 Honda Civic has gone out twice in the four years I owned it. The first summer I had to put a new condenser and fuse in. This last summer it went out closer to the end and I only had time to take it to one mechanic before the weather cooled down, and he couldn’t figure out what was wrong. So I have to get it looked at by a specialist.

  8. Dawn Burrows says:

We received a letter advising that there could be a defect and warranty has been extended to 10 years on A/C system.

    1. Savanna says:

Same here (2016 civic). And thank Goodness because I had No freaking AC all throughout summertime
When I brought my car to Honda they hassled me and didn’t want to fix it despite the warranty—thankfully their manager was cool, and told them to fix it for free. It should have been fixed regardless, without hassle but I’m thankful it got fixed nonetheless…
I’ve had nothing but problems with my Honda since purchasing back in 2016 I swear I was sold a lemon and I bought it outright brand new in cash. Smh

  9. Jason says:

Ive had a blown low pressure line, condenser, leaking compressor, and a bad expansion valve

  10. Bill says:

My 2016 Civic a/c went out. Dealer replaced condenser at no charge. Warranty extended to 10 years on a/c system.
