ford super duty truck tireA class action lawsuit claims that 2017 and 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty trucks possess a defect that causes their tires to leak.

Plaintiffs James Collins and Ken Newman say they own Ford F-350 vehicles that possess the tire leak defect and they have to fill up the tires almost daily.

In Collins’ case, he allegedly went to a Ford dealership numerous times but the dealership only offered repairs that did not address the root problem of the defect. He says that he then hired a third-party dealership to fix the problem, but the wheels of his vehicle are still affected by the defect.

Likewise, Newman says he complained to Ford about the defect, but the dealerships did not remedy the problem. He claims that the dealership told him that the repairs to the wheels would not be covered under warranty. Newman says that he then had to pay out-of-pocket for repairs done by third-party mechanics. He claims that like Collins, his vehicle is still affected by the defect.

The Ford leaking tires class action lawsuit alleges that the tires of the Ford F-350 trucks leak because of a design defect in the wheels. The wheels reportedly have a valve stem which is affixed to a sensor and which is the point at which pressurized air is added to the tire. The Ford class action lawsuit says that the tire valve stems are made of a steel alloy, while the wheels are made of an aluminum alloy.

The Ford class action lawsuit goes on to say that the two metals are incompatible, because the contact between the steel valve stem and the aluminum wheel causes both to corrode where the two elements connect. This corrosion allegedly causes leaks, which result in the tires losing air pressure continuously. The customers claim that this is why they have to fill up their tires almost daily.

The plaintiffs allege that low tire pressure is a serious problem because it can take a toll on fuel economy, it can reduce the life of the tires, it can affect vehicle handling, and it can ultimately affect the safety of the passengers.

The customers claim that tires with low pressure can deflate or blow out instantaneously, which can cause the drivers to lose control of the vehicle.

The Ford class action lawsuit states that Ford offers a repair for the problem, but knows that the repair is ineffective. According to the Ford tire pressure class action lawsuit, the repair offered does not address the root issue of the defect — the corrosion and tire deflation.

  1. Hank Rasmussen says:

I just had to have my left front tire valve replaced due to this problem. Was having to put air in every other day before driving.
Add me to the list, 2020 F350

  2. Matthew Turbutt says:

2020 Ford super duty 350 dually constantly had to put air in tires at least 2 to 3 times a month

  3. Frank Dutton says:

I have the same issue with my 2018 F-350 4 aluminum wheels leak air due to dissimilar metals, the inside rear steel wheels are fine. This is unacceptable for a $86,000 truck and also a safety issue. I understand you might have to add some air when the season changes, cold air contracts, but not 2 to 3 times a month. You can see the galvanic erosion around the valve stems from the disimilar metals. The dealer replaced 1 tpms sensor and put some sealant on the wheel, still leaks. Actually the TPMS warning came on last night so today I will add approximately 15lbs of air to 4 of the 6 tires.

  4. Jonas Mast says:

I have a 2017 F350 that I purchased about 18 months ago. I lose air in most of the wheels especially the front wheels. At least once a week I have to add air.

  5. Rodger Parker says:

Same problem here. 2017 F350 dually with constant air leaks. Ford now wants me to pay for a portion of the cost for new wheels. I dont believe new wheels are the fix. Im afraid in a couple years Ill be in the same situation again. I thought Ford was a great company, Im really leaning back to GM Lately.

  6. Jason Keith Cottrell says:

Add me to the list. I have a 2017 f350 DRW, added onboard air to the truck for reliability. I have to air up 2 tires almost daily, and the other 4 at least once a week, and all during a long road trip. I have had it in multiple times to no satisfactory resolve. I have run a couple different style tires even, to try to resolve the issue.

  7. Mike Sheehan says:

I have a 2019 F350 superduty with the same problem. The outboard rear wheels continuously loose air. I’m running nitrogen in my tires since new to try and prevent wheel corrosion and air pressure differential. Still continuously loose pressure. And from what I’m being told by the dealership there still is no effective fix. Add me to your list.

  8. Steven R. Stultz says:

Add me to the list. Ended up buying new wheels for my 2017 f-350 dually to feel safe on road trips!

  9. Gary L Carpenter says:

I bought a Ford F350 DRW and have a problem keeping air in the tires. Been to ford many times and they didn’t fix the problem. Still airing them up. Come on FORD you know you have a problem TAKE CARE OF IT!!!

  10. Robert Strickland says:

I have a 2017 Ford F350 and all my aluminum rims are leaking slowly. Some have the rubber stems and some have the steel stems. I have worked for Monroe’s which is a shock supplier for most if not all of Fords truck line. I do know that ford requires their suppliers to find a way to make their parts cheaper for them every year. There is no reason for Ford not to do the right thing. I also know that those who got Rancho shocks on their new Ford truck are not a true Rancho shock. Ford paid Monroe’s at that time $3.00 to paint the OE Ford shock white, add a Rancho Sticker and put a red boot on. Monroe’s did that for Chevy as well. I always thought it was misleading.
