LG class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Plaintiff Sandra Sherzai has filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA Inc.
- Why: LG allegedly failed to disclose the air pollutant risks associated with its gas stoves.
- Where: The LG class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.
LG Electronics USA Inc. failed to disclose the risk of pollutants associated with its gas stove models, depriving consumers of the ability to make an informed choice before purchasing the product, according to a recent LG class action lawsuit.
Plaintiff Sandra Sherzai says she purchased an LG gas stove without knowing that cooking with gas poses significant pollutant risks. If she had known about the risks, she says she would not have paid as much for the product.
Studies show gas stoves emit air pollutants at unsafe levels, LG class action says
About 40% of American households have natural gas stoves, and many consumers use their stoves daily, the LG class action lawsuit alleges.
Sherzai points to recent studies that show gas stoves emit air pollutants at levels that have been deemed unsafe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Association and the World Health Organization.
The air pollutants emitted by gas stoves have reportedly been linked to respiratory illness, cardiovascular issues, cancer, and other health problems. Children who live in households with gas stoves are significantly more likely to have asthma, the LG class action lawsuit says.
Plaintiff: Manufacturer should have warned about LG gas stove air pollutant risk
Sherzai says this risk is avoidable and claims manufacturers can design gas stoves to mitigate the risk of air pollutants. She also says gas-stove manufacturers should disclose the risk of pollutants so consumers can make an informed decision about whether to purchase a gas or electric stove.
The gas industry has known about the risks of air pollutants from gas stoves since at least the 1980s, according to the LG class action lawsuit.
The class action lawsuit asserts claims for violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law, Consumer Legal Remedies Act, breach of implied warranty, fraudulent omission, unjust enrichment and violation of various state consumer protection laws.
In January, the head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission clarified it was not planning to ban gas stoves after a member of the agency suggested it was considering a ban.

Sherzai is represented by Christin Cho, Simon Franzini and Jonas B. Jacobson of Dovel & Luner LLP.
The LG gas stove class action lawsuit is Sandra Sherzai, et al. v. LG Electronics USA Inc., Case No. 2:23-cv-00429-TLN-CKD, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

4 thoughts onLG class action claims company should have disclosed risk of gas stove pollutants to consumers
My wife and I purchased LG Model LSGL6337F /00 Manufactured November 2021. Product Code:LSGL6337F.ARSELGA
COSTCO delivered it April 04, 2022. From the beginning usage, this range has continually given off air pollution that has been offensive, causing sickness. We expressed our concerns to COSTCO, they advised that new ranges typically have a “Burn Off” break in period and the odors will eventually stop. They did not. COSTCO/LG arranged for a repair technician(s) to check this complaint. After multiple visits, we were told nothing was wrong and it should eventually correct itself. Concerned for our health, we gave up and purchased an Electric range. The LG range is disconnected, idle sitting in our house. We feel LG gave up on us. Please add us to the class action suit.
I have an LG stove. Why would they not tell us about this? Why would they sell him like this? Please help me I’m gonna buy a new one. I can’t have this in my house and be a fire
