Electrolux class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Sandra Parker has filed a class action lawsuit against Electrolux AB and Electrolux North America.
  • Why: Parker says Electrolux concealed a control knob defect in its Electrolux, AEG and Frigidaire ranges that can cause burners and cooktops to turn on unintentionally.
  • Where: The Electrolux class action lawsuit was filed in Michigan.

Electrolux is facing a class action lawsuit alleging it sells Electrolux, AEG and Frigidaire ranges with defective knobs that can cause the unintentional ignition of burners and cooktops, potentially creating a hazardous situation.

Plaintiff Sandra Parker alleges the knobs on the ranges are prone to rotating as the result of minor and inadvertent contact, causing the burners to turn on without the consumer’s knowledge.

“This unintentional actuation of the Ranges thus creates hazardous conditions — leaking gas or heating electric cooktops to extreme temperatures — and serious risk of fire, property damage, and personal injury,” the Electrolux class action lawsuit states.

Parker notes the alleged range knob defect affects several different model numbers of ranges that all have similar front-mounted burner control knobs. She alleges the Electrolux, AEG and Frigidaire ranges have knobs that lack the necessary guards to prevent unintentional actuation.

Electrolux failed to disclose range knob defect in Frigidaire ranges, plaintiff alleges

Electrolux has known about the range knob defect since at least 2015, but the company has concealed the defect from consumers, according to the Electrolux class action lawsuit.

Consumers have reportedly filed “numerous” incident reports about the Electrolux ranges with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and directly with Electrolux.

Parker says she purchased a Frigidaire range in December 2018 after reviewing the product’s marketing materials and learning that it came with a one-year warranty against defects. Shortly after the range was installed, she observed that it was being unintentionally actuated because the knobs rotate with light pressure.

The first time Parker contacted Electrolux about the issue, the customer service representative allegedly suggested she obtain new burner stems for the range, a solution she did not accept. The next time she contacted Electrolux, she was allegedly told there was no fix for the issue.

Had she known about the Electrolux range knob defect, Parker says she would not have purchased the Frigidaire range or would not have paid as much for it.

The Electrolux class action lawsuit asserts claims for breach of warranty, fraud by omission and unjust enrichment.

LG Electronics is facing similar allegations in a class action lawsuit alleging its ranges have defective knobs that can turn on unintentionally.

Parker is represented by David H. Fink and Nathan J. Fink of Fink Bressack; Alan M. Feldman, Edward S. Goldis and Zachary Arbitman of Feldman Shepherd Wohlgelernter Tanner Weinstock & Dodig LLP; and Michael F. Ram and Marie N. Appel of Morgan & Morgan.

The Electrolux class action lawsuit is Sandra Parker, et al. v. Electrolux AB, et al., Case No. 1:22-cv-01177, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

I have had the exact same issue. Did not know there was a class action lawsuit. Probably too late to get in. Plus we have injuries received indirectly when oil subjected to this extreme heat

  2. Doreen Waller says:

I have a refrigidaire 5 knob gas range. Whenever I reach up to my cabinets above the stove, andslightly touch the knob, it will turn on.
    Please add me.

  3. Catherine Swenson says:

I have the Frigidaire 5 burner gas stove. My knobs turn on so easily, and countless times I have smelled gas and realize someone bumped a knob on accident. This is disturbing and dangerous.

I bought this Frigidaire range from the seers outlet store here in Wichita Kansas either I think 2014 or 15 I’ve got it home started using it about a month later begin to realize that the knobs were turning on just by barely bumping them are going by them gas was in my house a lot I called them about it they said I had to take it up with Frigidaire I called Frigidaire and they told me there were no recalls and that was just the way they were made and I told him it was very dangerous and they should be recalls and they basically told me to call out a technician and see if they couldn’t fix it then I began to realize when we use the oven the knobs would get blistering hot hot enough to even burn your fingers called series back about that they basically told me to call Frigidaire again I called Frigidaire and they said I was the only person with that complaint and maybe I needed to have my oven checked so I did it was nothing they could do about it they said contact the manufacturer about the warranty and I did they said there was no warranty and there were no recalls so there’s nothing they could do about it at least 5060 times I have turned the gas off on my stove due to the fact the knobs turned so easily and I double check it every night before I go to bed so we don’t get gassed in our sleep I cannot afford to replace this range this is why I still have it

  6. Chrissy says:

We have a Frigidaire gas stove that does the same thing. I know I bumped one of the knobs and that turned it enough to start the gas (no flame), but one of the cats apparently got up there (not allowed and he knows it) and must have hit it. Atleast an hour later my son noticed the smell. We now keep the knobs in a drawer. Rediculous!

  7. Crystal Denison says:

Yes! This is terrible and frightening! Happens to me all of the time! Add me please!

  9. Donny says:

Hello, We have a Frigidaire Professional Range and the knobs are far too sensitive and dangerous.
I was cleaning my backsplash before going to work and rubbed up against one of the burner knobs.
The gas was inadvertently on for 5 hours with my dog in the house. Horrible design. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

  10. Jason says:

So how do we sign up? My range terrifies me. I have to check it like I have OCD because it’s almost killed us before. I’ve also caught my clothes on fire just for brushing near the stove. Luckily I wasn’t hurt this time.

    1. Robin Sheldon Farley says:

Same thing happened to me. I could have sworn I shut the stove off and the knobs were turned on. Now I check them several times a day.I literally thought I was losing it!
