Those who owned or leased a variety of 2008 through 2014 model year Volkswagen or Audi vehicles could get up to $6,500 from a Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement.
The Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement resolves allegations that a defect in the timing chain of certain models of vehicles caused tension system failures, resulting in costly repairs and safety concerns.
After initially being hit with a Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit over the alleged defect in 2016, another class action lawsuit alleged that the car maker hid evidence of problems with the chain that could cause it to “jump a tooth” and severely damage the engine.
According to the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement, those who owned or leased one of nearly 20 models of VW and Audi vehicles may be able to make a claim for repairs they had to make because of the alleged defect.
The VW class action settlement covers repairing or replacing a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, or repair or replacement of an engine damaged due to a timing chain or timing chain tensioner.
Class Members may also be able to claim an extension of their car’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover future repairs.
The deadline to submit a claim in the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement is Jan. 25, 2019.
Class Members who wish to object or exclude themselves must do so by Oct. 12, 2018. The fairness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2018.
UPDATE: On Dec. 7, 2018, amid Class Member objections, plaintiffs in a Volkswagen engine defect class action are trying to keep a proposed settlement deal alive. Plaintiffs in the Volkswagen class action emphasized to the court that there were only 43 objections to the proposed settlement.
UPDATE 2: On Dec. 14, 2018, a federal judge has granted final approval of a Volkswagen class action settlement over allegedly defective timing chains.

I have two boxes of the cookies but not receipts
Have a 2006 Audi A4 with 125.000 miles and the timing chain broke and engine sized. The car needs a new engin now. Why is there only certain years and models covered under this lawsuit? Sounds like there should be more models covered under this suit
I purchased a 2010 CC July 2018, was shown a clean Carfax by Volkswagen in Fort Myers, and told that the only issue with the car was the airbag replacement. On Dec. 29th, I noticed some white smoke coming from the hood of my car, and I pulled over immediately. My husband looked under the hood and saw that the timing chain had shredded, so had the car towed. The timing chain was thrown into the engine and the car is a total loss, we still have a loan. The service manager stated VW knew about the issue, and to deal with corporate. Jennifer from corporate told my husband it was our fault for not researching the timing chain and hung up on us.
I have a 2007 VW Jetta with the same problem. Why is it not in thee covered lawsuit?
What if you have a VW that falls into the class action covered vehicles, but the problem has not occurred yet? Is there a potencial for ezt being the coverage?
What if I have an 2007 VW Passat but same defects? Would I be compensated?
I called and talked to the timing chain settlement administrator. As of yesterday they have no indication to give me that there was a final approval or when checks will be sent out. I guess my question is how did you get the information that there was a final approval on 1214?
VW filed an appeal Jan 18, 2019 so no payments will be disbursed until all appeals have been exhausted
What about 2014 Q7
How long will it take to get reimbursed after sending proof of out of pocket to fix timim8ng chaing ?
What about the 2012 INFINITI QX56
The computer module was replace 3 times and NISSAN refused to buy back this suv . I had a local dealership to get a approvals to put a special part that was never designed for this suv .
The salesmen and the service rep told me NISSAN has always had this issue and if the customers are driving the suv with this module burning the battery it cuts off the entire suv and u lose control and have a fatal accident with this problem
My neighbor Infiniti QX56 caught on fire in their driveway
NISSAN knows about this very important problem and have not been in a overall lawsuit against them yet
I am so sorry that you are having the same types of problems I had years ago with Nissan warranty issues. I had to give up trying to get them to honor the warranty and sold the car. You may choose to go this route as Nissan apparently has not improved there warranty service.
If it is the same problem, 3x, you may be able to file a lemon lawsuit and get your money back for the car, Lemon Laws are at a state level, we have this law in California. I suggest you look into this possibility and make a better choice next time. No more Nissans, No VW’s, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc.
Consider Kia, Hyundai, Mazda Subaru 1st, then Toyota or Honda in that order.
I wish you a quick resolution.
BTW Do not bother with the BBB they are a total waste of time.
