Those who owned or leased a variety of 2008 through 2014 model year Volkswagen or Audi vehicles could get up to $6,500 from a Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement.
The Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement resolves allegations that a defect in the timing chain of certain models of vehicles caused tension system failures, resulting in costly repairs and safety concerns.
After initially being hit with a Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit over the alleged defect in 2016, another class action lawsuit alleged that the car maker hid evidence of problems with the chain that could cause it to “jump a tooth” and severely damage the engine.
According to the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement, those who owned or leased one of nearly 20 models of VW and Audi vehicles may be able to make a claim for repairs they had to make because of the alleged defect.
The VW class action settlement covers repairing or replacing a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, or repair or replacement of an engine damaged due to a timing chain or timing chain tensioner.
Class Members may also be able to claim an extension of their car’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover future repairs.
The deadline to submit a claim in the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement is Jan. 25, 2019.
Class Members who wish to object or exclude themselves must do so by Oct. 12, 2018. The fairness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2018.
UPDATE: On Dec. 7, 2018, amid Class Member objections, plaintiffs in a Volkswagen engine defect class action are trying to keep a proposed settlement deal alive. Plaintiffs in the Volkswagen class action emphasized to the court that there were only 43 objections to the proposed settlement.
UPDATE 2: On Dec. 14, 2018, a federal judge has granted final approval of a Volkswagen class action settlement over allegedly defective timing chains.

I currently have a 2013 VW Jetta gli autobahn edition that had the timing chain fail on me. Went to a private shop just like most people would since dealers charged practically double lol. $1,100 is kinda ridiculous regarding that the total bill of replacement cause nearly $5,000.
I have a 09 Jetta 2.0 turbo was diagnosed by dealer to have bad timing chain and tensioner. I haven’t had repairs done way too expensive-can I still file?
I used to own an Audi 2012 A4 sedan with the same issue !
Can I file ?
Called Audi to fix my timing chain failure on my A4. Seems they can see the settlement in their system, but no way to claim the repair cost. Dealer directs me to Audi – Audi directs me to Epic – Non response from Epic call center…
Viscous Circle…… HELP!
I have an 04 vw Jetta. I have had the same problem. Been to several shops bc there is not a vw shop/dealer within approximately 80 miles of my area. It jumped time, but still not running properly.
Audi or VW are making the same engines that they were making 50 years ago that’s why they have issues, I see the comments are from people having 02, 07 vehicles I have a 2014 and have the same issue so as you can see they never fixed it they are still using the same engine from 50 years ago.
I have the same problem with my 02 vw passat timing belt for the second time in 2 years
EPIC ARE THIEVES THEY STEAL CLAIMANTS MONEY
I had an Audi Q7 2007 with the same problem it cost me over $15000 and still wasn’t running. I cant belive the lawsuit is only 2008 and up Audi new about the problem and didn’t warn the people ??
I had an Audi 2007 q7 with a timing belt that blew that caused it to be deemed unusable or to be fixed at $10k. I had no choice but to lease a new q7. I wish the lawsuit included my make and model.
