Those who owned or leased a variety of 2008 through 2014 model year Volkswagen or Audi vehicles could get up to $6,500 from a Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement.
The Volkswagen timing chain class action settlement resolves allegations that a defect in the timing chain of certain models of vehicles caused tension system failures, resulting in costly repairs and safety concerns.
After initially being hit with a Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit over the alleged defect in 2016, another class action lawsuit alleged that the car maker hid evidence of problems with the chain that could cause it to “jump a tooth” and severely damage the engine.
According to the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement, those who owned or leased one of nearly 20 models of VW and Audi vehicles may be able to make a claim for repairs they had to make because of the alleged defect.
The VW class action settlement covers repairing or replacing a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, or repair or replacement of an engine damaged due to a timing chain or timing chain tensioner.
Class Members may also be able to claim an extension of their car’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover future repairs.
The deadline to submit a claim in the Volkswagen timing chain class action lawsuit settlement is Jan. 25, 2019.
Class Members who wish to object or exclude themselves must do so by Oct. 12, 2018. The fairness hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2018.
UPDATE: On Dec. 7, 2018, amid Class Member objections, plaintiffs in a Volkswagen engine defect class action are trying to keep a proposed settlement deal alive. Plaintiffs in the Volkswagen class action emphasized to the court that there were only 43 objections to the proposed settlement.

If there was a settlement on Dec 12, 2018, when will they be paying out claims???
I want to know if there is any protection coverage or recall on all affected vehicles with future problems? This Class Action only helps owners that have repair bills as of now.
Is is possible to hold the dealers accountable in the future after suit is settled?
Will Volkswagen just make the repairs? I don’t have the money to get repairs done then get reimbursed. The engine is shot, no compression on any cylinder.
Did you ever get feedback on this question
I have this same question! What about the timing chain breaking in the future??
Hello,
I wanted to know if this is only for engine repairs? I just recently left my mechanics which use to work for Audi. He told me today my camshaft needs to replace and also told me about this class action settlement regarding the problem on my 2010 Audi A4.
I had purchased my first car and it was an voltswagon GTI. I was out visiting an friend and he left before me at 3:00am. As i pull of the timing belt had popped and i was stuck there for hours. Of course during this year there where no cell phones at all. I had just purchased the car used from an dealership. So after sitting for 4 hours i asked a neighbor that was coming out if i could use his house phone. Of course the dealship was closed on Sunday so i 411 the salesperson name and got his number to call him cause i was stranded. They thought that was the funniest thing ever that i called him at home. But i end up having to pay a lot of money cause i didn’t get extended warranty on the car. I want to be reimbursed for that whole experience.
I purchased used 2009 Tiguan in May of this year. Had to have approximately $5000 in repairs done in September on timing chain, tensioner & related problems (including a new camshaft). But, vehicle has 111,000 miles on it so doesn’t qualify. I agree with above post that this should have been a recall item & in all fairness should be covered.
Have the same issue but am from Canada…..HELP?
Will this work on Ford’s to? They are basically volkswagons on wheels.
What a crock I wish I would have known this sooner I never received anything in the mail. my a4 just fried its engin due to the timing chain failure. I am at 100723 so I get nothing. Hopefully we see some kind of expansion on this as this issues should have been a mandated recall
What if you diagnosed and did repairs yourself are you not entitled?
I just mailed a settlement objection letter. The current settlement is insufficient. Postmark deadline is October 12. Make sure you are heard.
I missed the deadline, glad you did not.
We objected also and filed in time.
