Paradise Showgirls class action settlement

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Paradise Showgirls Club in City of Industry, Calif. wrongfully required dancers to share their tips in violation of California law. If you danced at Paradise Showgirls Club between May 17, 2006 and May 26, 2015, you are entitled to a payment of $20 per day for each day you danced.

If approved, this Paradise Showgirls class action settlement will resolve allegations that the club wrongfully required dancers to share money that they received directly from customers. The class action lawsuit asserted that this tip-sharing policy is a violation of California law, which prohibits clubs from requiring their dancers to share money they receive as tips from customers.

The Paradise Showgirls class action lawsuit was initially filed in May 2010 by plaintiff Quinece Hills. She asserted several causes of action against the Paradise Showgirls Club, including: failure to pay minimum wage or legal overtime; unlawful imposition of penalties; illegal tip collection; uniforms reimbursement; failure to provide rest and meal periods; and other violations of California law.

The defendant denies any wrongdoing. The class action lawsuit went to trial, and in April 2015, a jury found that Paradise Showgirls unlawfully required dancers to share their tips with the club. The jury entered judgment of more than $6.5 million against the defendant.

Although the defendant has appealed the verdict, the appeal has been stayed. The parties entered into mediation and reached a proposed class action settlement that will ensure the dancers will actually receive money, and that their money would be paid in a reasonable amount of time. Under the terms of this class action settlement, the defendant will pay $3.025 million to resolve the litigation.

The paradise site that had information about the case has been taken down.

  2. Past dancer says:

    Has anyone heard anything?

    1. Lisa Beverly Hill says:

I talked to the attorney for the case last week. The clams administrator sent me an email saying that all the emails I sent her went into her spam folder. If you have submitted a claim & they excepted it & if you did not get a letter saying they need more info then your claim is valid. Your name and info was submitted to the judge & they collected it. You are by law entitled to your portion from the class settlement fund. They are liars & they are the ones committing fraud. I am going to call California attorney generals office and make sure every cent the collected is accounted for.

  3. Cyndie says:

I was unable to give the lawyers extra info when they asked. I guess I can call, but does that mean I am excluded at this time? it was for personal reasons I chose not to give more personal details. they did not say it was mandatory, just helpful. now I wonder if it is too late. being in an abusive relationship means making sacrafices and I was unable to talk or email at the time. now I realize I can use the money I am out of the relatonshiop.

    1. Lisa Beverly Hill says:

They are full of BS. they owe everyone that submitted a claim before august 8th. And if you did not get a letter by early September your claim is valid. We all should have been paid the AMMOUT ON OUR CLAIM FORMS. They are frauds. Don’t trust them. They have lied to me. I have all the court documents & I know that there are laws that protect our rights and I a. Going to make certain that these witches are held accountable for this attempt at conning us out of our money.

  4. lean says:

Did you hear back from Stephanie Yet? I called today but haven’t received a phone call. I was told they pay out a certain amount of claims monthly….I hope this was not true…I would really like to know when I will get paid. Thanks

    1. August says:

I sent an email to Megan (from the law firm) in September. (She’s also a liar) She told me that The Claims Administrator’s and we’re going to start sending checks out the end of October . I sent her another email in November thing I didn’t get a check. She sent back another email saying checks were sent out in October November and December. Since then and probably the whole time she’s been a liar.
The only things I know for a fact are that I haven’t gotten my money and that she has been wrong or lied. Either way you don’t give out information to people as if you know it for a fact and then just not know what you’re talking about.
I guess the reason lawyers have such bad reputation for being snakes bottom feeding sleaze bags, is because they are bottom feeding scum bags.
Lawyers stand in front of judges telling more lies than anyone.

The Bar Association website explains how attorneys are supposed to treat their clients. And we are their clients. It is unethical when an attorney lies to us.
it’s unethical when they avoid clients. Avoid phone clients calls.
it’s unethical when they steal our money and they and actually lose their license to practice law which is what I would love to see happen.
I was reading about attorneys committing fraud in class action settlement cases. attorneys actually will take peoples information (like they did with us) and submit it into court so that they can get the largest settlement possible and then they just screw over the clients.
That’s called identity theft and it’s also fraud. I want to call the courthouse and get a hold of the judge so I can tell him what there lawyers are doing to us. If the judge knew what the lawyers are doing to us.
What these lawyers are doing to us is equivalent to them forging our names and writing a check on our own accounts and stealing $20,000 out of our checking account,
this is what it’s equivalent to.
they used our information with the intention to commit fraud.
And until we get our money. All of it, nothing less than what is on our claims form.
They are breaking the the court order. the judge ordered them by law to follow the court order they are breaking the law they belong in jail

  5. Dancer says:

I called today, no check as of yet.

888-250-6810 x404 for Stephanie (The admin told me she was the account administrator)

    1. Lola says:

Thanks for for this info. Did Stephanie give you any idea as of when they’d be releasing the checks ? Are we even getting a check

    2. Money Maker says:

I have called twice and left a message both times but I haven’t heard from them.

      1. Lola says:

I called and left a message as well . I haven’t heard back . Hmmm

  6. Anonymous says:

I’d tried calling the phone number and I keep getting a voice-mail

  7. Anonymous says:

Has anyone received payment? I still haven’t heard anything.

    1. Past dancer says:

I havent gotten mine. I was dancing there 06 to 08.

  8. Bebe1990 says:

Are there any new developments? We’re there any appeals files?

  9. Past dancer says:

    I haven’t received my share either…

    1. Top Class Actions says:

It looks like the court just granted the settlement final approval on 11/4/16. There is a 30 day period in which appeals can be filed. There have not been any appeals filed as of today, which is great news. Claims will not be paid until after the appeal period expires.

      1. Past dancer says:

Thank you so much for your reply.

      2. Patiently Waiting says:

Do you have any idea as to why this is happening?
Check disbursement for around 200 claims to be “processed” mailed has taken 8 months & counting.
It seems unethical that any of the parties wouldn’t just be straightforward with class members.
The settlement agreement is very detailed the whole 60 or 80 pages but the part when it comes to paying out the girls who work there that portion coincidently is vague and even somewhat confusing to my own attorney
as to certifying a class members
And how The claims process is ordered to be handled when it comes to sending the checks to the girls. The girls, the victims, the entire reason there was a class Action Suit Worth millions.
It’s I guess everybody important got paid. Who cares about the dancers? their stupid dancers. right? This website, class-action lawsuits, most class action attorneys, this hired third-party “neutral” (b.s,) claims administration.
All seem more than happy to and very comfortable with standing in front of a judge on a daily or weekly basis swear under oath and lie in court. Even though this we are in Sweary to the bar association and so we are to whoever and got above that they will be honest as long as they get that license to practice law aka illegal criminals

  10. Anonymous says:

Has anyone received their settlement? I have not. When should I expect it?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

No word on when claims will be paid. You should try contacting class counsel with any questions on the claims process. Good Luck! Please let us know when you receive your check!
