Sharp LCD TV

Oregonians who purchased a TV, monitor, or notebook computer with an LCD flat panel screen between 2002 and 2006 may be entitled to compensation from an antitrust settlement.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen F. Rosenblum filed two antitrust lawsuits against the makers of liquid crystal display (LCD) flat panels and Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT). The lawsuits accused the manufacturers of conspiring to fix, raise, maintain or stabilize the prices of TFT-LCD flat panels or CRT resulting in overcharges to consumers who indirectly purchased TVs, monitors, or notebook computers containing LCD flat panels or CRTs.

The Oregon Attorney General recently settled with all of the LCD defendants for more than $21.5 million. Under the terms of the LCD settlement, Oregonians who purchased LCD panels incorporated in flat panel televisions, monitors, or notebook computers may be entitled to a portion of the settlement fund.

The defendants in the LCD settlements include:

  • AU Optronics Corp.; AU Optronics Corp. America (“AU Optronics”);
  • Chimei Innolux Corp. (formerly known as Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. and now known as Innolux Corp.); Chi Mei Corp.; Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp.; Chi Mei Optoelectronics USA, Inc.; CMO Japan Co., Ltd. (“Chimei”);
  • Epson Imaging Devices Corp. (“Epson”);
  • HannStar Display Corp. (“HannStar”);
  • Hitachi, Ltd.; Hitachi Displays, Ltd.; Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc. (“Hitachi Displays”);
  • LG Display Co., Ltd.; LG Display America, Inc. (“LG”);
  • Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.; Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.; Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (“Samsung”);
  • Sharp Corp.; Sharp Electronics Corp. (“Sharp”); and
  • Toshiba Corporation; Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.; Toshiba Mobile Display Company, Ltd; Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (“Toshiba”).

The defendants deny the allegations but agreed to settle the antitrust lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.

If you wish to be excluded from the Oregon LCD settlement, you must submit your request no later than Jan. 15, 2016.

The CRT antitrust lawsuit is still ongoing and has not yet been resolved. However, eligible Class Members may register for the CRT lawsuit.

Who’s Eligible

The State of Oregon (and all state government entities), all Oregon political subdivisions, and all natural persons who, at any time from 2002 to 2006, indirectly purchased (for their own use and not for resale) one or more TVs, monitors and/or notebook computers that included a TFT-LCD flat panel.

NOTE: To be included in the LCD settlements, a natural person must have been a resident of Oregon at the time of the purchase, and the products must have been purchased in Oregon.

Potential Award

Varies, depending on the number and type of LCD flat panel products purchased.

It is estimated that claimants who submit valid claims will receive a minimum of $50.42 from the LCD settlement. Claimants may be awarded a maximum of $102.90 per device purchased.

Proof of Purchase

None required. However, claimants may be asked to provide documentation during the claim verification process. Claimants should retain any proof of purchase documentation until their claim is closed.

NOTE: Claimants must declare under the penalty of perjury that all information provided in the Claim Form is true and correct.

    To anyone that have been getting the run around about your check concerning this class action Lawsuit, please contact the Oregon Attorney Generals Office with your complaint by phone or email. I was apart of this settlement and my check was issued out on JUNE 26th, 2019. After not receiving it, I called and they told me that check was sent back due to “being non deliverable.” I have NEVER had an issue with mail not getting to me. My CORRECT address was in their file, and on the check, so I don’t understand their claim of it being non deliverable. I was told by the representative that the check would be resent, and to call back in a week. I’ve been calling for the last MONTH and guess what? I called back again today 08/05/2019, and the check has still not been sent out. This is ridiculous. I then decided to email the Oregon State Attorney General Office to inform them about this situation. The representative with LCD did not want to give me the person or persons who handled this class action lawsuit, so I got all the information from their website. Something is not right and their handling of this lawsuit and payout was unprofessional and they are holding checks that belong to those who have a RIGHT to receive payment. Please contact the Oregon Attorney General.

    1. DW says:

      I would Call this number ‭1 (877) 940-7791‬. They said my check was “undeliverable” but I got a denial for the lcd claim. Reissued my check and sent it out after calling.

  4. Tee says:

    So I received a check, but I also got a Notice of Deficiency saying that it appears I have a duplicate claim. I filed a claim for 2 notebooks and I think 2 TVs, but it’s been awhile since I filed so I don’t remember if it was for 2 TVs or just one. Anyway, I tried calling the phone number and got cut-off. I”m not sure what they want from me.

    Can anybody help?

  5. Star says:

    Got 2 checks from the Oregon screen settlement. The LCD check for $388.74 is partial payment for TVs & monitors claimed. They denied the notebook computers & said I could appeal but I would be required to provide proof of purchase for ALL claimed devices. A 2nd separate check of $235 for CRTs. Both are dated 6/26/19

  6. Kari says:
