UPDATE:
- An appeal to the Massage Envy fees settlement was filed March 26, 2020.
- On October 20, 2021, the 9th Circuit Court vacated the District Court’s approval of the settlement.
- Top Class Actions will let our viewers know as soon as a revised settlement agreement is submitted to court for approval.
- Massage Envy has agreed to pay $10 million to resolve class action claims that the spa unfairly increases monthly membership costs.
The settlement will benefit individuals who were a member of a Massage Envy Spa between Nov. 4, 2006, and June 7, 2019.
Several plaintiffs filed the Massage Envy fees class action lawsuit over allegations that the spa continuously increased the price of their membership fees without informing customers.
In June 2019, a California federal judge said that she would likely approve the $10 million settlement despite arguments that the vouchers provided by the settlement would be insufficient.
A plaintiff in another Massage Envy class action took issue with the proposed settlement, but U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney decided to give preliminary approval to the settlement despite objections.
A website was established for the settlement a few weeks later. The website, which now hosts details and claim options for the settlement, acted as a placeholder until the full notice and voucher request forms were available.
Massage Envy has agreed to make changes to their membership fees. Additionally, Class Members can receive a voucher with a value between $10 and $50. In order to receive settlement benefits, Class Members need to submit a voucher request by Sept. 20, 2019.
The voucher amount depends on the amount Class Members paid in fee increases, as follows:
- $10 voucher: paid $75 or less in fee increases
- $20 voucher: paid $75.01 to $125 in fee increases
- $30 voucher: paid $125.01 to $175 in fee increases
- $40 voucher: paid $175.01 to $225 in fee increases
- $50 voucher: paid $225.01 or more in fee increases
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 20, 2019. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2019.

what a joke? a voucher for $10.00 does me no good. i’m no longer a member there.
if i was ripped off for $30 then i should get a check for at least $30.
Please add me.
This is nonsense. Why would a class action payout in vouchers limited only to new members, to the very same predatory company that defrauded them? The court is helping them bring back the same customers they’re supposed to be penalized for ripping off.

Massage envy is a rip off.
Years ago I had monthly membership that allowed me 1 hour massage per month.
As my life got busy I din’t have time to go, leaving me with $600.00″credit” in massages.
When I cancelled the membership I lost it all!
They wouldn’t honor the massages I had already paid for.
They didn’t even tried to work with me.
One more thing before I go…
They have this thing that will allow you to give unused massages to a family member or a friend. But of course they charge you for the transfer! Never again!
Is there a Claim Form

This is a B.S. settlement. I don’t want a voucher to use at a place that I am no longer a member. I wan’t cash. I paid cash for the membership didn’t I?? I hope there are enough objectors that come out and get this B.S. settlement changed.
My same thoughts exactly. I didn’t even appreciate the service because I lied to about the amount my membership would cost and terms of the membership and the location I went to provided absolutely no assistance in resolving that. Screw this.
My thoughts exactly! I just read that it was a voucher to use, where I am also no longer a member. Absolutely ridiculous. I was hoping to actually get money back that frankly, was stolen from me, not to give it straight back to a terrible company.
