Lumber Liquidators has agreed to pay up to $30 million to resolve claims that their bamboo flooring is defective and prone to damage.

The settlement will benefit Class Member consumers who purchased Lumber Liquidators Morning Star Strand Bamboo flooring between Jan. 1, 2012 and March 15, 2019.

Plaintiffs filed their Lumber Liquidators class action lawsuit in December 2014, alleging that the company sold defective Morning Star Bamboo flooring products. According to the class action, the flooring was prone to damage such as warping, splitting, shrinking and splintering.

The flooring provider reportedly refused to take responsibility for the defective products. Instead, the damage was allegedly blamed on the plaintiffs and the flooring installer. Consumers were forced to pay for repairing or replacing the defective bamboo flooring, according to the plaintiffs.

Lumber Liquidators has not admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the claims against them. The settlement includes $14 million in cash, $14 million in-store vouchers and an additional $2 million in vouchers to be provided if a seven percent claim rate is reached.

Eligible consumers can receive a pro rata award from the settlement, although exact amounts will depend on the flooring purchase price.

If consumers are experiencing warping, cupping, buckling, scratching, cracking, delaminating, splintering, deteriorating or gapping with their flooring, they may be eligible for additional payments to cover repair costs. Photographs of damage, contractor’s bids and other documentation may be required for additional payments.

In order to benefit from the settlement, Class Members need to file a valid claim form by July 15, 2020. The deadline for exclusion is March 2, 2020. The deadline for objection is May 21, 2020. The final approval hearing for the Lumber Liquidators settlement is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2020.

  1. GB says:

When will they send the checks out, only received a voucher. They said level one would receive both check and voucher. TCPA can you check into this.

  2. Samuel Burns says:

I also received my voucher today, August 30, 2021. I hope I do receive a check. The voucher is not enough to replace a floor or to do appropriate repairs. The voucher is good for three years, and for the next three years I will purchase cleaning supplies/tools, carpet tools, and cleaning supplies. The lawyers do get too much, and we get too little. Otherwise, I thank God for what I did get and I hope I get a check.

  3. Elsie says:

I received my voucher today. I was so sad I spent $1400 and only got $202. I was expecting to get more… what a bummer.

    1. Jonathan Young says:

Class Action Lawsuits are for greedy Lawyers, not for the people affected buy corporate greed. Kind of ironic if you think about it.

  4. Jonathan Young says:

Or perhaps the voucher is all I get. It’s worthless to me as it would require me to spend more money at LL as a $360 coupon isn’t going to get you much in the way of flooring. I’m sure the lawyers/law firm made out handsomely though…

    1. Susan appleton says:

Did yours get delivered through ups and you have to sign for it? We had a notice but weren’t home.

  5. Jonathan Young says:

What came today for me was the voucher from Lumber Liquidators. For around $1600 spent on flooring the voucher was for $360. There should also be a settlement check which was supposed to mail out today (30th).

  6. GB says:

Hi Debbie how much was your award, just curious about what they are paying out. Thanks

    1. Jonathan Young says:

I received the LL voucher today for $360 and my flooring purchase price was around $1600. The settlement check is supposed to mail out today.

  7. Karen Holcomb says:

So any word yet on anybody having received either a check or vouchers?
