Former ITT Technical Institute or Daniel Webster College students could benefit from a settlement related to ITT’s bankruptcy filing and may now update their information with the ITT student claim settlement administrator.

This settlement benefits individuals who attended ITT Technical Institute between Jan. 1, 2006, and Sept. 16, 2016, or Daniel Webster College between Jan. 1, 2009, and Sept. 16, 2016. According to the settlement website, there are around 450,000 who qualify for this student class.

ITT Technical Institute and Daniel Webster College were for-profit colleges run by the same company. However, according to the Project on Predatory Student Lending, from the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School, ITT students may have been taken advantage of by the school’s lending practices.

According to a 2022 report from the Project on Predatory Student Lending, ITT got students to enroll in its programs based on false promises that the students could get good jobs in growing fields.

These false claims allegedly tricked students into applying for student aid to attend ITT schools — allowing ITT to reap the benefits.

“In the end, the vast majority of students who attended ITT either never received a degree or were left with a useless degree,” the ITT report states.

“All they had to show for their investment were exorbitantly high student debt and the inability to repay it — and, perhaps most devastatingly, opportunities forever lost.”

In September 2016, three ITT companies (ITT Educational Services Inc., ESI Service Corp., and Daniel Webster College Inc.) filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and closed the schools.

Students at these locations who hadn’t graduated were offered the option to apply for closed student loan discharge or transfer their credits to another institution, according to StudentAid.gov.

In 2017, former students filed a class action lawsuit to assert their claims in these proceedings. In February 2022, the bankruptcy court approved a plan to distribute some of the money from ITT’s bankruptcy estate to former students.

Under the terms of the distribution, Class Members can receive a cash payment. Payment amounts may vary based on the funds available and the number of Class Members who choose to participate, but the bankruptcy website anticipates initial payments will range from $10 to $100.

Class members who received a notice from the ITT bankruptcy student claim settlement can update their information with the settlement administrator by June 7, 2022.

Class members who do not update their information will not be eligible for the July 7, 2022 disbursement date. Their money will be reallocated to the next distribution.

Those who did not receive a notice but believe they should be included in the settlement can alert the ITT student claim settlement administrator by submitting a request for inclusion on the settlement website.

  1. Ashley Salvito says:

I got $40 yesterday, is this the only payment? i seen on the paper it said one of the payments like there would be more.. I’m confused bc this is definitely not enough!

    1. Noah says:

Just got mine check $36.42. I graduated in 08 but my degree is worthless no one takes it. So do I get to have my loans discharged? This check should prove we were hustled right?

    2. Ashley J says:

      You got $40 I’m pissed I only got 30. 🤣😂🤣

  2. Shelita Smith says:

Got $32 in the mail the other day. Is there going to more payments? That doesn’t even cover the books needed for one class.

  3. Lilly says:

So with this bankruptcy, do we still have to pay what we owe? Or is it wiped out!

  4. Caleb says:

Pretty sure tuition cost more than $29. These assholes are about $30k short PER PERSON at least and much more for many others I’m sure. Absolutely pathetic.

    1. Mrsmom says:

Got a whopping $30….yea…can they finish the 41k

  5. Paul Schoenberger says:

How do I find out they just keep sending a notice

  6. Semaj says:

I don’t understand how $30 dollars is a settlement for someone who filed a lawsuit over 4yrs ago and had to stay updated with the case after already wasting years of time on broken promises?

  7. Rey says:

Over a billion won from the lawsuit and I only got 30 bucks. Ridiculous. I can’t even fill up my gas tank to go to work. Got me again.

    1. Alex Tucker says:

At least you got something. I filled out all the paperwork and it said I was eligible. I gave my bank info and years attended. I graduated back in 2009. I still owe 3700 on my loans. I didn’t get anything deposited into my bank today, so count yourself lucky you got anything back at all.

    2. Carlos says:

I had a total of 52 credits I earned from ITT tech, we were working on our finals smh, got only $16 back

    3. Alex says:

      I got my $30 lol.

It says this is the first installment.

      $1.5 billion/450,000 eligible former students = $3333.33 per student

      1. Alex says:

        My comment got cut short…
Will we actually get this much?? I doubt it. I think we will all get at least $1500 depending on how long you went to ITT and how credits you earned. Thing that pisses me off is I’ve already paid $60,000 on my loans over 8 years.

        1. Samantha says:

So are we supposed to be getting more payments or is this all we are getting?

      2. Ashley Johnson says:

Don’t play with my emotions. Your math better be correct. 😂🤣😂

      3. Keith Wertman says:

That’ where “NEW MATH” meets real life

  8. Cody Holmes says:

I started on my first day, and then the next they shut down… Out of 4 years of college, and can’t get back into school, because of this.. we really need more compensation, I don’t care if I only had 1 day.. that’s 4 years that I won’t get anywhere else, because of this..

  9. Kyle says:

Is there any objection to this we need to receive a lot more money by this action. We attended and we had lost time on our lives that we should get back. I want my time back but I can’t at least give us a little more than what we are getting. But if it just the first of many payments then I need details on how much we are really getting.

    1. Veronica L Robinson says:

I guess you got something. Wish I had. They never even sent me anything that said I wasn’t getting anything like they said they were going to do. That being said we do deserve alot more.

  10. April M Steele says:

This is sad we should all get together and file another suit.i want my loans paid for and my degree useful
