The Honest Company Inc. has agreed to pay $1.55 million to settle a class action lawsuit over allegations it engaged in unfair and deceptive marketing and advertising by misrepresenting some of its cleaning products as being “free” of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
If you purchased Honest multi-surface cleaner, dish soap and/or laundry detergent between Jan. 17, 2012 and Aug. 2, 2017, you may be entitled to compensation from the Honest class action settlement.
If approved, this Honest class action settlement would resolve six class action lawsuits that accuse The Honest Company of labeling and marketing its multi-surface cleaner, dish soap and laundry detergent in a false and misleading manner by representing they were free of SLS even though their ingredients include sodium coco sulfate (SCS).
Honest represents SCS as a “coconut based cleanser” that is a “gentler alternative” to SLS, the Honest cleaning products class action lawsuit alleges. The plaintiffs assert that it is a scientific fact that SCS contains a significant amount of SLS.
“Honest broadly advertises its mission to produce and sell products that are natural and free of harmful chemicals,” the Honest class action lawsuit states. These representations allegedly included statements by Honest that its multi-surface cleaner, dish soap and laundry detergent are “Honestly Free of SLS” or “Honestly made without SLS.”
According to the Honest class action lawsuit, these representations were made on Honest’s blog posts as well as on the Twitter and Instagram accounts of its co-founders.
“Critically, these representations are false and misleading; each of the SCS Products contains SLS, in concentrations of up to 14%,” the Honest cleaning products class action lawsuit alleges.
The plaintiffs accuse Honest of charging a premium for its multi-surface cleaner, dish soap and laundry detergent that were falsely advertised as being free of SLS.
The six Honest class action lawsuits were transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California for consolidation in August 2016.
The Honest Company denies the allegations but has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the burden, expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
The Honest multi-surface cleaner, dish soap and laundry detergent class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Aug. 2, 2017.
The deadline to opt out of or object to the Honest class action settlement is Nov. 15, 2017.

I agree. I don’t have my receipts from last week, let alone from months ago !
I wouldn’t think of keeping receipts for this stuff.
This is not right who still has a receipt left for soap.WOW
I know right. I’m outraged too. This is ridiculous. No one keeps receipts for small items like soap. They could at least allow us to claim a certain amount without the need for receipts. I mean, even up to $50 without proof of purchase would at least be some restitution. WOW indeed!
Apparently sarcasm is a foreign language for some people. So is reading.
They have your proof of purchase, they can look up you name and address thats what the lawyers are getting oaid for is to do all of that work to verify claims so they can look you up!
Who keeps these receipts!! I only used honest dish soap and detergent since my daughter was born In 2014 until 2016. Why would I still have the receipts?? Most ppl is not going to be able to file claims because we don’t have proof of purchase!
I don’t.
If you are registered with Honest company website. It stores all your purchases on the account
I got a card in the mail for a class action law suit for them for a different suit for a different amount paying out $2,50 per item???? and the form is more rediculous than this one. they do this getting email addresses and sending numbers to you after the final hearing and you send codes back and they send another thing back to you for it to be valid all to get your claim screwed up so the lawfirms can keep more money!!!! they can call it admin fees for all they work it is taking to send codes and numbers back and forth. I have lost out on several hundred dollars because of this scamming!!!!!
I agree….. Who keeps the receipts if you think these products are, what they claim to be????……
How can ANYONE buy ANYTHING from this so-called Honest Company from now on?????……
This is a SHAM……Instead of spending MILLIONS, and keeping the LAWYERS on retainers; why not
just make your products as your namesake says….HONEST(LY)…… I guess the SHMUCK (consumer)
is left holding the bag again for the BIG BOYS…… WHAT A JOKE!!!!
