Chase Bank has agreed to pay $11.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the bank harmed credit card accountholders’ credit scores and even required them to pay on debts that were discharged in Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The Chase credit card class action lawsuit alleged that the debts on Class Members’ accounts that were discharged in bankruptcy were sold to third parties, known as debt buyers; however, Chase failed to update accountholders’ credit reports. Instead, the credit reports reflected that the debts were sold or charged off.
The class action lawsuit claimed that Chase’s failure to update these credit card accounts reflected negatively on Class Members’ credit scores. Further, some Class Members, concerned about the affects of the allegedly falsely reported debt on their credit score, continued to pay on debts that had been discharged in bankruptcy.
Chase Bank says it did not attempt to collect on discharged debts, but has agreed to pay $11.5 million to end the class action lawsuit.
Class Members may be entitled to a full refund of any amount they paid on a Chase Bank credit card debt that was discharged in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, along with a portion of the settlement award.
The deadline to opt out of the class action settlement agreement is July 18, 2018.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members include “all individuals (i) who maintained a Credit Card Account with CBUSA; (ii) whose account CBUSA charged off and then sold to a Debt Buyer on or after January 1, 2008, and (iii) who post-sale sought and obtained a discharge of the debt as a result of his/her bankruptcy under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code, through and including the date of the Bankruptcy Court’s preliminary approval of the Settlement.”
Potential Award
A full refund of the amount paid on an affected Chase Bank credit card account, along with a share of the settlement award.

I didn’t file chapter 7 but I was sued by a credit buyer after my chase card was sold off to debt buyer. They have taken my state income refunds over the past 4 yrs.

My Chase card is only used for my military golf membership.
I will be meeting with the accountant at the Fort Sam Houston
Golf course on 06/05/2018. They advised me that I was being
overcharged on my golf membership. This all started when I was
sent a new Chase Credit Card. More details to follow.
I’m curious what that has to do with having a Chase debt and filing bankruptcy chapter 7?
I had a Chase card for many years please add me
If you DID NOT file for chapter 7 bankruptcy, YOU DO NOT QUALIFY!
Thank you for making the commenting I was thinking. :)

Everyone, you cannot simply comment “add me” and expect to be added to the claim. You have to click where it says “Click here to file a claim.” This will allow you to submit the form with your information. Saying “add me” does not suffice. YOU MUST SUBMIT A CLAIM.
