front-loading washer class action lawsuit

A class action lawsuit has been filed against BSH Home Appliances Corporation, alleging that the company marketed, advertised and sold Bosch and Siemens brand 27” front-loading automatic clothes washing machines that are susceptible to mold and/or bacteria growth, which can cause foul odors. If you purchased a Bosch or Siemens 27” front-loading washing machine, you may be eligible for a cash payment from the BSH class action settlement.

The Bosch/Siemens washing machine class action lawsuit alleges that the front-loading washing machines (a) do not effectively clean themselves or work as advertised; (b) cause washed clothes to stink; and (c) develop mold, bacteria and/or other biofilm, which can lead to foul odors. The plaintiffs allege they paid more than they would have if they had known the front-loading washing machines required extraordinary upkeep to prevent the bad odors from developing. The washing machine class action lawsuit alleges BSH breached warranties and violated various state laws.

BSH denies that its front-loading washing machines are defective or are prone to developing mold, bacteria and/or other biofilms. Further, the company alleges that the recommended maintenance for the washing machines is not extraordinary and that it is effective at preventing mold, bacteria, biofilm and/or foul odors from developing.

On Dec. 12, 2014, plaintiffs filed a motion with the court, seeking preliminary approval of the BSH moldy washer settlement.

If you have had your washing machine only 2-3 years you wont really know you have a problem. I later started noticing my whites never came out as white as they use to in previous washing machines I owned. I used whiteners in my wash and three – four years later, they are still looking dingy. My grown kids from college came home and started telling me they thought the washed clothes were starting to stink. I noticed the black around the doors rubber gasket. I had left my door open between washes. I always washed my detergent dispenser at the top because I like my machine looking clean and pretty. I used washing machine cleansers once a month, then increased to twice a month. This is still not clearing up the mold on the rubber gasket and I believe the smell in my laundry room was always because of this washing machine. $55.00 settlement from Bosh doesn’t help me to replace this piece of crap I paid $1,000.00 for. I bragged on their dish washer. But they know nothing about clothes washers. Those lawyers also in the class action suit are receiving $6.5 million and $5,000 payment to each of the four Class Representatives. Mr. Lawyer, What about us consumers? $55.00?

I purchased my Bosch washing machine in 2011. I had the same problem from all the above. Mold around the rubber gasket, foul odor my clothes stink after washed. Every time the machine was in the spin cycle it shocked my whole house like an earthquake. I did all the cleaning maintenance like running in hot water with vinegar or bleaching the drum to no avail the smell won’t go away. Last January 2015 my washing machine just stop spinning. Did all the trouble shooting according to the book manual instructions but nothing happen. Finally call a repairman and said, it was a bad motor and a computer malfunction. Needless to say to have it repaired is as costly as having a new one.. So there’s that…double whammy! Not only I was dealing with stinky laundry my machine went down to the grave! Now I purchased a new one and I was happy with my new machine.. Never again I will buy a Bosch appliances of any kind.. And ohh….the $55 is a joked!!

I have the same problem and I would like a new washer not $55.00. I wash the rubber down with bleach and a brush. It helps a little.

  4. Joyce Kormanyos says:

When we remodeled our kitchen we purchased Bosch dishwasher per consumer Reports recommendation. It is great. Washes well and is so quiet you can’t tell it is running. So, silly me, I thought the bosch Wash Machine would be as good. Whatever made Bosch think they could make a clothes washer? I was warned about the odor so leave the door open and not much of a problem there. But it does not wash well and does not spin things out ever.

What we need is some real consumer protection. At least the wash machine won’t kill us like the GM cars with faulty key.

  5. Joyce Kormanyos says:

When we remodeled our kitchen we put in 2 Bosch Dishwashers per Consumers Report recommendation. They are wonderful, so quiet you can’t tell they are running. So there was no question for me, I thought the Bosch wash machine would be a great replacement for my 30 year old Maytag which sprung a leak in the tub.. What a disappointment. I was warned about keeping the door open and do this. So not much of an odor problem. But it does not wash well. Does not spin things out. Whatever made made Bosch think they knew how to make a wash machine. Isn’t it about time something is done about companies that sell any old thing and we are left holding the (laundry) bag. This law suit giving us $55.00 is an insult. I paid $1200.00 for machine, stand and installation. At least this wash machine won’t kill us like the GM car with the bad key. We need some consumer protection with some real teeth in it.

I purchased this machine about 5 years ago and it has been a lemon from day one. My cloths do not come out clean especially whites. The odor is awful and mold grows where the detergent dispenser is. I now remove the detergent dispenser after every wash and need to empty that of water and I leave that out until I wash again. I have bought many cleaning packets for this type of machine but the smell still comes back. I now know that they do not make this washer anymore – WONDER WHY??? They should be giving everyone money to replace their washer seeing the mold and odor can potentially cause cancer.

  7. TC says:

My Bosh clothes washer, bought in 2006 in CA, develops mold and odors, and has the same no-spin problem others have described. At times, I’ve leaned against the washer, using my weight to lessen the washer vibration. This means staying in one place and pushing against the running machine for several minutes. This technique sometimes coaxes the washer to spin out. An inexpensive and environmentally friendly treatment to treat some of the odor trouble is running a hot wash cycle with a generous amount of vinegar in the drum. The product that works best for me in odor elimination is Vital Oxide. It is pricey, but for me, worth it because of its amazing odor elimination. It is used in hospitals as a sanitizer and does not contain bleach. It is safe to use on dishes. I practice leaving the washer door open and the dispenser area lid open when the washer is not in use, but still, just yesterday I noticed black mold in the dispenser area. Time to put on gloves and douse the area with whatever I have on hand to kill the mold. Best wishes to you all. I hope Bosh reads this information.

I leave door open no s lookt clothes fully clean. not saving money.

  9. Bonnie says:

I purchased my Bosch front loading washing machine in 2009 and love it Just surprised by all this since I never had any trouble with it. The clothes smell clean after each wash without having to use much detergent. It may be helpful to leave the door open at all times to allow the inside to dry out. The installer mentioned that it is important to always leave the door open on all front-loading washing machines (think this is key).

  10. Laurie says:

We have the Bosch Axxis Washer & Dryer & the washer has thei same issue – the black is at the bottom, right smack in the middle only the rubber gasket & no matter how much you scrub it, you can’t get it completely clean. And it does stink at times. Is Axxis included in the settlement??
