front-loading washer class action lawsuit

A class action lawsuit has been filed against BSH Home Appliances Corporation, alleging that the company marketed, advertised and sold Bosch and Siemens brand 27” front-loading automatic clothes washing machines that are susceptible to mold and/or bacteria growth, which can cause foul odors. If you purchased a Bosch or Siemens 27” front-loading washing machine, you may be eligible for a cash payment from the BSH class action settlement.

The Bosch/Siemens washing machine class action lawsuit alleges that the front-loading washing machines (a) do not effectively clean themselves or work as advertised; (b) cause washed clothes to stink; and (c) develop mold, bacteria and/or other biofilm, which can lead to foul odors. The plaintiffs allege they paid more than they would have if they had known the front-loading washing machines required extraordinary upkeep to prevent the bad odors from developing. The washing machine class action lawsuit alleges BSH breached warranties and violated various state laws.

BSH denies that its front-loading washing machines are defective or are prone to developing mold, bacteria and/or other biofilms. Further, the company alleges that the recommended maintenance for the washing machines is not extraordinary and that it is effective at preventing mold, bacteria, biofilm and/or foul odors from developing.

On Dec. 12, 2014, plaintiffs filed a motion with the court, seeking preliminary approval of the BSH moldy washer settlement.

My husband selected the Bosch Washer and Dryer because we had owned a great Bosch Dishwasher. However from day one we had problems with the washer. My first encounter with the foul smell was when I set a timer to begin the wash cycle while I was at work. When I arrived home my washed laundry had a very foul order. So I have never utilized the timer since due to this issue.

We have the same problems others mentioned at this posting; of mold, foul laundry room smells, vibration like an earthquake during most spin cycles, and additionally, parts on our washer are cracking.

We have paid out of pocket on three occasions to replace the inside moldings on the door where the mold have collected. We were utilizing bleach to clean the molding area; however the last time a repairman can out to our home he suggested that we leave the washer door open between washes.

The washer and dryer unit were not cheap; nevertheless we thought (incorrectly) that they were well constructed, heavy duty appliances that would last for years.

What also bothers me about the Bosch washer is that Bosch provided me with a survey regarding their products, which I returned. I indicated to Bosch that I was having trouble with our washer; however no one from Bosch ever contacted me regarding the issues which I reported to them that I was dissatisfied with.

The bottom line is that our Bosch purchase has been a costly purchase with our out of the pocket repair service expenses. Furthermore we worry about how the mold may be affecting our allergies as well.

Wow, I’ve been suffered this bad washer since I bought it 2009. I never thought this is the vendor’s problem until I got the notification mail. I thought it was my bad luck that I bought a lemon product.
I have all the problems that were mentioned in above: 1) the mold/mildew foul odor problem on the rubber gasket; 2) YES, sometimes it does not spin at all (especially when wash towels and bed sheets); 3) very often, when it spins, it makes very very LOUD noise (lots of time the loud noise makes you so scare); 4) very often, when it spins, it vibrates (shake) so hard that I’ll feel like a big earthquake happening when I’m standing in the laundry room.
Yes, I wish I had never purchased ‘bosch’ products!!!

  7. Judy says:

I purchased a Bosch Nexxt Washing Machine in September 2005. I do have a mold/mildew foul odor problem on the rubber gasket. Although I try to clean it and wipe the gasket dry after each wash, I am unable to remove the black mold completely. Sometimes the clothes smell also when they are removed from the washer.
I sometimes get an error code especially when washing towels before the wash is complete, which I do not know the cause – maybe the load is unbalanced However if I turn the washer off and start over again (or just put it on the rinse cycle), it usually works.
My washer occasionally also does not spin. Today I had to put it on the spin cycle twice for just a T shirt and a pair of sweats!

  8. Theresa says:

I wish I had never purchased my Bosch!!! The odor from the washing machine was so bad it smelled like a dead animal. Even my husband, who has been a coroner for almost 30 years, was nauseas. I had to clean the trap, which about made me vomit, and then cleaned the drum. I ran a cycle two times in hot water and then spread the room with Lysol to kill the odor. There goes my electric bill not to mention we are in a drought! I also have the problem where every five to six loads it will not spin and I have to put it on the spin cycle. I hope someone pays because I sure am.

    1. Don Devore says:

Leave the door on your machine open when not in use and you wont have that problem. I havent.

      1. Kathy says:

I love my machine and have had it for over 2years. I also dry out the door and rubber gasket. I then remove the dispenser drawer and let it air dry. The door remains open all the time as well as i leave the dispenser out. Never has there been any smells or mold problems. I opted to be this obsessive/compulsive about keeping it dry because my daughter has a Whirlpool front loader and the odors are bad and also transfer to the clean clothes.
