Blue Buffalo pet food

The natural pet food company Blue Buffalo has agreed to pay $32 million in order to settle allegations that it falsely claimed their products were free of poultry byproducts, corn, wheat, soy and artificial preservatives.

Pet food competitor Nestle Purina PetCare Co. along with plaintiffs in 13 separate class action lawsuits challenged the “True Blue Promise” label after claiming that several investigations found those ingredients within Blue Buffalo products.

The Blue Buffalo class action lawsuit alleged that plaintiffs paid a higher price for the “natural” pet food because they were misled by false advertisements that Blue Buffalo was a quality choice compared to other products on the market.

According to the Blue Buffalo class action lawsuit settlement, Class Members will receive $5 for every $50 they spent on various Blue Buffalo products over a seven-year claim period.

Blue Buffalo stands by its labeling and denies it did anything wrong, however the pet food manufacturer has agreed to the terms of the settlement in order to avoid the cost of further litigation.

Christine, Were you able to file your claim? The site is still accepting claims. Call the admin @ 844-245-3772 if you need help.

      1. SusanH says:

I was wondering Admin, if you know when we can expect the payout? I filed the claim form and submitted receipts (from Petsmart where I buy all my dog food) in April, 2016. It just so happens that our beloved yellow lab was diagnosed with diabetes shortly after I found out about the suit against BB. We fed her this food for YEARS; I am not saying that BB caused this, but I truly wonder if the type of ingredients it has contributed to her problem. We nearly lost her, but after changing her food and now giving her insulin injections (for the rest of her life!) she is doing much better!!

  3. Christine Sichelstiel says:

error comes up when I fill out form

    1. Robin says:

A error always comes up when I fill out the claim form? What a waste you can not fill out the claim

  4. Christine says:

If you used a Petco rewards card it will store your history of transactions. So does this mean it really has those ingredients? They are settling the lawsuit but there are no answers on the true ingredients.

    1. Ms. B says:

Makes me think they settled just for that reason…

  5. judy says:

I don’t keep a receipts for years that they are requesting.

  6. Business Man says:

Lol. Modern world my friend, it’s called store/merchant computers storing all of your purchase data and you just go there and submit your info and Voila! You have your receipts.

    1. mike says:

petsmart only holds keeps records of receipts for 60 days

      1. Connie says:

I tried to get my duplicate receipts yesterday and I was told by the manager that it only goes back three months. I can only get the $10 since I did not save all my receipts

      2. Pamela Thompson says:

I received a list dating back to 2012. IF you contact the service on the website and say why you need it. It will take a few weeks though.

      3. Rochelle says:

Not true. If you look at the PetPerks section, you can get your transactions for several years.

  7. Oh Boy! says:

Yesterday I click on to file a claim. And got a virus that took over my computer. Blue Buffalo can keep their $10. We going to be out of more than that. To get virus remove. Geek squad here we come.

  8. George says:

It is so sad the companies have so much power, they can literally do what ever they want and only get a slap on the wrist. They no nobody got receipts so they add that to weasel out.

    1. annette says:

      Agree.

  9. Maxwell says:

What a Joke make pay out without a receipt is 10$ ! Who keeps receipt for dog food really ? Really ?

    1. Denise S says:

Me. I keep receipts for everything. I submitted $900 worth from 3 years worth of receipts.

  10. Leslie says:

Who are these people that keep reciepts for every single thing they buy? That nonsense helps lawyers make way more when claims are lower…. and of course the companies sued have to pay less overall. Thats Murican capitalism for you!

    1. TT says:

Agree! I never keep a receipt…heck, if i did, id never be able to organize them effectively!

    2. Cindy says:

I have all my receipts and since I always (but once) buy from Pet Smart, they are helping me by sending me a printout of my purchases there for the past two years.

    3. Linda says:

I actually bought my Blue Buffalo online so I printed out the receipts….other than that I never keep receipts.

    4. Pamela Thompson says:

You can contact PetSmart. If you use a Pet Perks Card, they can email your entire purchase history.

      1. Rita Muehlman says:

Petsmart customer service representative told me to go to my local store and get a purchase printout. The store manager knew nothing about how to do this, and he called customer service. They denied customer receipts could be reproduced. The deadline to submit a claim is in two days and I only have a handful of receipts from 2015. I have 6 cats and a dog and have purchased Blue products (only) for four years. Who keeps receipts going back four years? The attorneys get to keep all the money if people don’t file claims.

        1. Josie says:

same thing happened to me..THEY were the ones that pushed me to buy Blue Buffalo when I was a new puppy owner and didnt know what to buy..now they dont have the history of it on their rewards card

      2. Donna Rolin says:

credit card or Pet perks card or both. I bought several $1000s over 8+ years thinking I was feeding our boy the best. The liars should have to pay back every penny. He had skin allergys and ended up with cancer. We were devasted. They should be put out of buisness.

      3. Debra Young says:

I don’t understand why Blue Buffalo did not send out a letter saying that their food was compromised, there was a class action settlement, and here is where and what one needs to do. I was a registered user and received coupons from them. Now, I find out about this too late to file.

    5. Carol says:

All you have to do is contact the company, as I did, which was Pet Smart and have them send a list to you of all your purchases. Using your free membership number. I did and they sent me a list very fast. I am also guilty of not keeping all of my receipts.

    6. Denise S says:

Me. I am that people. I create an envelope every month and receipts from everything I buy and pay for are kept for three years. I submitted $900 in receipts. You can also get a printout from pet supply stores if you use a rewards card. Too late for this one but now you know.

    7. Karen says:

I don’t normally keep receipts for my pet food purchases. However, if you purchase regularly from PetSmart or PetCo and are a member of their rewards club, they keep that information in their data base. In order for me to become a member in this lawsuit, and I did feed my pet Blue Buffalo regularly, all you have to do is write either store, supply your rewards numbers, and they’ll be happy to supply you with the information.
