Blue Buffalo pet food

The natural pet food company Blue Buffalo has agreed to pay $32 million in order to settle allegations that it falsely claimed their products were free of poultry byproducts, corn, wheat, soy and artificial preservatives.

Pet food competitor Nestle Purina PetCare Co. along with plaintiffs in 13 separate class action lawsuits challenged the “True Blue Promise” label after claiming that several investigations found those ingredients within Blue Buffalo products.

The Blue Buffalo class action lawsuit alleged that plaintiffs paid a higher price for the “natural” pet food because they were misled by false advertisements that Blue Buffalo was a quality choice compared to other products on the market.

According to the Blue Buffalo class action lawsuit settlement, Class Members will receive $5 for every $50 they spent on various Blue Buffalo products over a seven-year claim period.

Blue Buffalo stands by its labeling and denies it did anything wrong, however the pet food manufacturer has agreed to the terms of the settlement in order to avoid the cost of further litigation.

  1. Jim P says:

It was dumb luck that I had enough receipts to get $ 180, we had been moving during the time so I just threw them in a drawer because I needed them for my income taxes. Other than that I would not have had them. We bought 3 – 33lb bags every week from 2007 – 2014. My figures came up to @ $ 58,000 and they are only giving me $ 180 sounds fair ( sarcasm ) I no longer feed Blue Buffalo, Id give back this money and then some if they would only admit that they had changed their formula in 2012

  2. EWood says:

They can do this? who do I contact, because I buy from Petsmart too.

  3. Ev says:

I am hoping my Amazon order history will be sufficient for proof of purchase. Now for the more daunting task of figuring out what to feed my pups…

  4. Madison says:

I was able to file a claim, but had no receipts. I should have sued the company right after feeding my dog Blue Buffalo. I fed my dog Blue Buffalo and it cost me almost $300.00 to get her back to normal. She was 4 at the time. She had bloody diarrhea, dehydration, nausea, vomiting. I had to give her presectiption dog food, two different antiobtics and a probiotic pill for two weeks. It was almost 2.5 weeks before she started having a soft stool and a month before her stool was semi solid and she was active again. I tell everyone who listens to stay away from Blue Buffalo. My dog is now 7 and healthy as can be. I went back to using Hills Science which is what the breeder used and my vet recommended, and I will never stray from that dog food again! Is is totally made in the USA!

  5. Dee says:

If you have a Petco Pals card you can call them and they will e-mail you all your purchases. I did and received in a few days.

  6. Karan Keim says:

I purchase all my food from Chewy.com and all I had to do was go on line and print out all my receipts.

  7. Suzanne holdenried says:

Are the 30 pound bags included in the suit?

    1. Admin says:

All of the sizes are included.

  8. Deborah says:

I feed my dogs Blue, chicken and rice formula. Small bites. They love it. They are so much healthier. I will continue to buy this food.

  9. BIG DIK VICK! says:

BUY SOME BROWN RICE, CHICKEN OR BEEF ROAST OR SALMON. YOU DONT NEED MUCH MEAT. CORN. THROW IT INTO A LARGE POT AND YOU HAVE FOOD FOR YOUR BEAST. HEALTHIER AND CHEAPER! DO THE SAME FOR YOUR FAT KID AND IT WOULD ALSO WORK FOR THEM. DANG NABBIT!
