Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it deceptively described its Aveeno Active Naturals products as “natural,” even though they include synthetic ingredients.

If you purchased certain Aveeno Active Naturals and/or Aveeno Baby products from May 7, 2007 and June 13, 2017, you may be entitled to compensation from the Aveeno class action settlement.

The Aveeno Active Naturals class action lawsuit was originally filed by plaintiff Michael Goldemberg in May 2013. He accused J&J of marketing and selling its personal care products with the Aveeno Active Naturals label to get a leg up on competitors and to command a premium price from consumers who are willing to pay extra for products that do not include harsh, synthetic ingredients.

On Oct. 4, 2016, a New York federal judge granted certification to a Class of consumers who purchased certain Aveeno Active Naturals and Aveeno Baby products.

Johnson & Johnson denies the allegations but agreed to settle the Aveeno Active Naturals class action lawsuit to avoid the burden and expense of ongoing litigation. An amended order granting preliminary approval to the Aveeno class action settlement was filed on June 13, 2017.

The products covered by the J&J class action settlement include Aveeno Active Naturals and Aveeno Baby lotion, body wash, sunblock, cleanser, shampoo, conditioner and other personal care products. A full list of the 90 covered products is available here.

Class Members who would like to opt out of or object to the Aveeno Naturals settlement must do so no later than Sept. 27, 2017.

Just another false advertisement, cutting any corner that can possibly be cut in order to boost profits! Its the norm in todays corporate world. If they investigated every product I am certain they can find something similar with over 50% of the products on the market. We have used Aveeno for years! Spending the extra thinking that were getting quality and to find out we been duped again! I hope they pay big and lose all profits from this just to learn a lesson. Don’t lie to people who work hard for their money to buy your products!

    QUESTIONS:
Does the purchase of a 2-Pack at Costco count as one or two purchases?
How do I access/amend a claim I have already filed?

    1. Rod A. says:

I would say two, but you would have to contact the settlement administrator to amend a claim. The administrator info is listed above, contact number, and mailing info.

  3. Susan Curro says:

I used Positively Ageless Eye Lifting and Firming Cream and it damaged my eyes for ten days. I had scabs and splits not to mention that it caused my eyelids to droop over my eyes for 7 days. Horrible pain, no makeup and I looked terrible. Turns out they put shitake mushrooms in this product. Nit sure what damaged my eyes. They quickly sent me a check for $22. I have not cashed it and am angry that no one bothered to contact me.

We love Aveeno products in our household. They may not meet all the claims that they advertise, but they are great for sensitive skin. We had dozens of receipts that qualified for the class action settlement.
