Amazon has agreed to give customers 12 million free audiobooks to resolve an Audible membership credit class action lawsuit.
There are three Classes eligible for payment under the settlement. The payment card Class includes Audible customers were charged on a card other than the card originally designated as the primary payment card for their membership between March 10, 2013 and Aug. 17, 2018.
The regular member Class includes Audible customers who lost unredeemed paid membership credits between March 10, 2013 and Aug. 17, 2018.
Gift Class Members include Audible customers who bought or redeemed an Audible gift membership between Aug. 11, 2011 and Aug. 17, 2018, that resulted in credits being lost.
When each month of Audible services is renewed through subscription, customers receive one “credit” that they can use to redeem an audiobook.
However, when a customer previously cancelled their membership with Audible, they were allegedly forced to give up the credits they had paid for through their membership.
The Audible class action lawsuit was filed by several plaintiffs in March 2017 and included claims that Audible wrongfully cheating their customers out of credits paid for as a part of their membership.
The plaintiffs also argued that Amazon charged cards for the service that were not authorized to be used for Audible subscription payment.
Amazon and Audible reached a settlement with the plaintiffs in March 2019. The massive online retailer and its subunit do not admit any wrongdoing by settling the claims and instead seek a resolution for all parties.
Under the settlement, Class Members are not required to submit a claim in order to participate.
These individuals should receive an initial email informing them of the settlement. If the settlement is granted approval at the final approval hearing (July 8, 2019), Class Members will receive an email to claim their settlement award.
If Class Members take issue with the settlement, they can object to the agreement or exclude themselves from the settlement by May 23, 2019.

They are STILL doing it but now it’s German Audible charging my cards!!! I cannot get a live person who speaks English anywhere that can help me!!! My bank charges a foreign purchase fee at the same time! Oh and I have NEVER had an Audible account either!!!
I had noticed several times I’ve been charged on my other credit cards for audible, and one was as recent as Dec. 2019. I also have lost numerous audiobook credits and I did not cancel but combined accounts, I have another account that needs added to my current one and it has about 30 books on it. I am wondering if they are charging me still for mutiple accounts? But I paid at least a years worth of membership but didn’t buy until about 11 months in and I only had a few credits. I was not notified that I’d lose them if I didn’t use them until I called one day because I couldn’t even access the account because amazon took over and I couldn’t use the old password. I was not told about any lawsuit either.
How do I get Credits renewed that were lost
Add me please
How do I claim my settlement credits? I have not received any email about this from Audible.
This is from Audible’s website (I inserted the *** at the ‘what a lie’ section. Like Walmart running ‘we such a great employer’ ads to overcome their bad lawsuit-related PR:) We heard you when you asked for more flexibility in how you use your credits so we have moved beyond our original use it or lose it rollover model. Now our monthly and annual plans allow members to keep credits for up to a year. *** We want our customers to use credits they’ve paid for, on their terms, *** (I used to be a fan of Amazon, until BS like this and learning about false self-serving search results) along with access to multiple plan options to suit their listening habits. … (I buy elsewhere now when Amazon was default mode.)
I fall into the Rgualr Class. I lost 5 credits when the phone app didnt mention the loss of credits.
Why is Audible still neither refunding, nor permitting continued use of existing credits when people cancel. I just canceled today (July 20, 2019) and had one credit– but, Audible said I would lose my credit if I canceled. I did indeed cancel and lost my credit.
