Good morning everyone! I hope you had a great week!
We’re rapidly escalating from ‘hot’ to ‘OH MY GOSH, MY FEET ARE BURNED, AND I JUST WALKED FROM THE PORCH TO THE POOL’ here in Phoenix. That’s to be expected, I guess! What I thought WASN’T to be expected was a stuffed elephant hat at 3 PM in the afternoon. That’s what I wore when I picked up Sydney and Aubrey from summer camp last week. A big, gray, stuffed elephant on my head, with a trunk extending upwards towards the sky from my forehead and big floppy ears that dropped down the side of my head, over my ears—long enought that I can actually tie them together underneath my neck. It’s 108 degrees. I walk from my parked car to the entrance of the girls summer camp, and wait for them in a small sliver of shade. As I walk to the door a boy points at me, and says, ‘that’s not seasonally appropriate!’ I giggled, both for his truthful statement and in surprise at his word choice! My girls? When they walk out? Do they laugh? Do they chide me for embarrassing them in front of their friends? NOPE! Aubrey smiles, and says, ‘DADDY!!!!!! NICE HAT!!!!’ Sydney tilts her head a little, gives me a crooked smile, and says, ‘that’s MY hat Daddy!’ No embarrassment whatsoever. No ‘you’re crazy Daddy!’ I guess I have to try harder if me in an elephant hat in the summer is ‘normal.’ HAH!
