Propecia lawsuitA Propecia lawsuit was filed after a New York man developed Propecia erectile dysfunction after using the male pattern baldness treatment. The Propecia lawsuit was filed against drug manufacturer Merck & Co in the beginning of May.

Plaintiff Todd P. used Propecia (finasteride) from 2010 until 2013. He is one of countless males who have taken the hair loss drug.  Although male pattern baldness is a common occurrence, many men will try to counteract it by taking a drug like Propecia in order to keep their hair.

However, as the Propecia lawsuit stated, “the rates of sexual dysfunction as a result of finasteride are reported to be as high as 39% in published clinical studies.” Furthermore, only 50% of that population may recover from Propecia impotence. As a result, many men, including Todd, have filed Propecia lawsuits against Merck for causing and failing to warn against Propecia side effects.

Todd is seeking compensation for all of the physical and mental injures caused by Propecia, medical costs, lost income, permanent disability, loss of balance, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.

About Propecia

Propecia was approved in 1992 to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. In 1997, it was also approved to treat male pattern baldness. Later, reports of Propecia sexual dysfunction including side effects such as “decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorder as well as potential depression,” according to the Propecia lawsuit.

While the Propecia warning label in Sweden was changed to include these side effects of Propecia in 2008  (arguably later than it should have been), the U.S. label was not changed until 2011 despite the fact that the warning label was updated several times before that. The new label read that the hair loss drug could cause “erectile dysfunction that continued after discontinuation of treatment.”

Propecia Lawsuits

Allegations in this Propecia lawsuit are that the drug makers failed to warn against sexual dysfunction side effects of Propecia and as a result, many men have taken the drug without being aware that their male pattern baldness treatment could cause permanent erectile dysfunction.

Many Propecia lawsuits have been filed as a result of unwarned side effects of Propecia.

This Propecia Lawsuit is In Re: Propecia (finasteride) Products Liability Litigation, Case No. 1:15-cv-02670, part of MDL No. 2311, in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of New York.
