A testosterone product lawsuit was filed against AbbVie Inc. by a Virginia man who alleges that he suffered severe testosterone side effects after using AndroGel.

Plaintiff Everett M. filed this testosterone product lawsuit on March 12 in Illinois federal court, alleging he suffered three cardiovascular events, including a stroke, heart attack, and DVT (deep vein thrombosis). He further alleges that the testosterone gel manufacturer AbbVie failed to warn him, other consumers, and the medical community about the testosterone gel risks.

According to the AndroGel testosterone product lawsuit, Everett (now 79 years old) began using AndroGel in 2007. At this time, the plaintiff did not have a prior medical history of heart problems or blood clots.

However, in January 2010, Everett allegedly suffered a heart attack while using AndroGel. Additionally, in March 2013, the plaintiff further suffered from DVT and a stroke. The testosterone product lawsuit alleges the plaintiff suffered these testosterone gel side effects as a direct result of using AndroGel.

Everett allegedly continues to suffer from cardiovascular impairments, economic loss, physical and mental trauma, and decreased enjoyment of life, the testosterone lawsuit alleges. Because of testosterone product side effects, the plaintiff has also sustained loss of earnings, medical expenses, and regular medical monitoring for his alleged testosterone gel injuries, all of which cause him to experience a physical, emotional, and financial burden.

Testosterone Product Litigation

Everett’s AndroGel lawsuit joins hundreds of other testosterone product lawsuit pending in Illinois federal court centralized before U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly as part of the nationwide testosterone products multidistrict litigation (MDL).

The majority of the cases centralized in this testosterone MDL involve AndroGel. However, Testim, Axiron, AndroDerm, and a number of other low-testosterone (or low-t) products and their alleged side effects have also been included in this testosterone product litigation.

All of these various testosterone product lawsuits have been consolidated into one MDL in order to reduce duplicate discovery and avoid conflicting pretrial rulings in similar testosterone product lawsuits. Centralization also serves the convenience of all parties, witnesses, and courts involved in the MDL cases.

A small group of AndroGel lawsuits are being prepared for early trial. These bellwether cases are expected to go to trial in October 2016.
