Tesla is recalling more than 125,000 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles due to issues with the seat belt notification system.
The vehicles are set to alert the driver with visual and audible signals if the Tesla seat belt is not latched properly when the vehicle ignition is switched to the “on” position.
An open trace in the driver seat occupancy switch may result in a loss of the audible and visual seat belt reminder signals when the driver’s seat belt is not fastened, according to the Tesla recall.
That audible and visual warning is required on the vehicle; a continuous or intermittent audible signal is supposed to activate for at least 4 seconds, and a visual signal is supposed to display for at least 60 seconds.
104 warranty claims related to Tesla seat belt issue
Tesla says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Tesla said that 104 warranty claims may be related to the condition. The company plans an over-the-air software fix that will begin in June.
The software change will remove dependency on the driver seat occupancy switch and will instead rely only on the driver seat belt buckle and ignition status.

The electric automaker issued a February recall of nearly 200,000 of its model year 2023 Tesla Model S, X and Y vehicles over concerns they were equipped with a rearview camera that can malfunction and fail to display an image.
