Taro Pharmaceuticals was negligent with its employees’ data, leading to their private information being leaked in a cyberattack, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Jae Lee filed a class action lawsuit against Taro Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. May 8 in a New York federal court, alleging negligence.

Taro is an international pharmaceutical company that claims to develop high-quality, proprietary and off-patent pharmaceuticals for the United States, Canada, Israel and other countries around the world, the lawsuit states.

it stores “a litany” of highly sensitive personal identifiable information (PII) about its current and former employees that it failed to protect, according to the Taro Pharmaceuticals class action.

“Defendant lost control over that data when cybercriminals infiltrated its insufficiently protected computer systems in a data breach,” the lawsuit states. “Defendant had no effective means to prevent, detect, stop or mitigate breaches of its systems—thereby allowing cybercriminals unrestricted access to employee PII.”

“In short, Defendant’s failures placed the Class’s PII in a vulnerable position—rendering them easy targets for cybercriminals,” the lawsuit alleges.

Lee sued on behalf of anyone whose data was compromised in the breach. He claims negligence, breach of contract and unjust enrichment and seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.

I agree with Jae Lee. Taro pharmaceuticals has failed their employees by not providing the proper protection to our personal data. Taro takes too many short cuts and over work their employees to save money. I am a former employee.
