Saks and Lord & Taylor shoppers are asking a judge to give final approval to a $2 million deal to settle class action lawsuits over a data breach that reportedly saw more than 5 million credit and debit card accounts stolen and posted to the dark web.

In a memo filed Oct. 29 in a New York federal court, customers said the deal they had made with Hudson’s Bay Co. ULC, Saks Inc., Saks Fifth Avenue LLC, Saks & Co. LLC and Lord & Taylor LLC “exceeds” similar deals approved by other courts.

If approved, the settlement will allow shoppers who submit proof of a valid transaction to get a $30 payment for time spent monitoring their accounts after the 2017/18 data breach.

Those who suffered out-of-pocket expenses could be reimbursed up to $5,000 each.

You could be eligible if you used a credit, debit, or prepaid card at a Saks, Lord & Taylor, or at Saks OFF 5TH between May 1, 2017 and April 1, 2018.

The 15 named plaintiffs will get $1,000 each from the settlement, and it is proposed that the lawyers get $1.4 million, the memo says.

Saks and Lord & Taylor entities were first hit with class action lawsuits in 2018 as it emerged that cybercriminals had been siphoning their customers’ card details since May 2017.

The defendants have also promised to make changes to their data security. To read more about the settlement, click here
