Comcast Robocalls Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Comcast is facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly robocalling noncustomers.
  • Why: Channel Aweau alleges the company called her repeatedly since Oct. 2020 despite her not having an account and telling the company to stop.
  • Where: The case is pending in Philadelphia.

Comcast illegally robocalls to noncustomers invading their privacy, even after it has been told to stop, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Lead plaintiff Channel Aweau alleges in the lawsuit that since Oct. 2020, the telecommunications giant has repeatedly sent her robocalls about an account that does not belong to her, violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

She is suing on behalf of anyone in the US who has received a robocall from the company in the last four years, and seeks $500 for each call and $1,500 for each call made knowingly in violation of the TCPA.

In the claim, Aweau says she is not, and has never been, a Comcast customer and did not provide any consent to receive calls from the company.

“On numerous occasions, Ms. Aweau informed Comcast that it was calling the wrong number and asked Comcast to stop calling her,” the claim alleges. “Comcast stated that it marked her number as ‘do-not-call’ and promised Ms. Aweau that the calls would stop.”

Despite this, Aweau says Comcast nevertheless continued to call her.

Comcast Aware of Robocall Problem, Claims Class Action Lawsuit

The plaintiff alleges that Comcast is aware of the problems with its system resulting in the improper calls, adding that the company has been sued multiple times for the same thing.

She says Comcast caused harm to her and other people it sent robocalls to, including lost time tending to and responding to the unsolicited calls, invasion of privacy and nuisance.

Comcast is also fighting off claims from customers that it fails to tell consumers how long it will maintain their personally identifiable information.

  5. RB says:

We are getting unsolicited calls from comcast several times a week and can’t get them to stop. Caller ID indicates the calls local and each one is a different spoofed number. We have no way of stopping this! We are not customers, and now we will never be! What does it take for them to stop!! Hopefully Comcast as a company will cease to exist as more people discover streaming is not only better but also much cheaper, and reliable also! Forget the DNC list…it’s a joke!

  6. James and Louise Davis says:

Comcast makes as much as 3 times a day to us using false caller ID names! I would to have them stop. They have convinced me we would never want to do business with them – they are dishonest!!

  7. Laura W says:

I’m on the DNC list for my state and have been since 2004, yet, Comcast keeps robocalling me. I’ve never been a customer and they aren’t even in my area, to my knowledge.
You block one number and they have 1000 more to hide behind. I’m so tired of it.
