Women Seek U.S. Doctors for Vaginal Mesh Revision Surgeries

By John Curran

vaginal mesh surgeryPlastic surgery took off after World War I when soldiers with horrific burn wounds wanted to re-enter society. Women who have dealt with bladder sling implant side effects may have fewer visible wounds, but multiple revision surgeries are often necessary to fix problems with these medical devices. With thousands suffering, even victims from abroad are coming to America for help.

One Canadian is trying to raise money after she says she suffered from a vaginal mesh implant failure, except it will cost tens of thousands to do so. She would do it in Canada, but the Manitoban says that specialists at the University of California in Los Angeles would provide her better odds of not needing revision surgeries.

The mesh implants were expected to last longer because they used synthetic materials and not tissue like other slings designed to treat stress urinary incontinence. However, Christine Asprey joins thousands of women in the United States who say that the material used, polypropylene in most cases, is biologically incompatible. That causes inflammation and bladder sling implant failure side effects.

These can include erosion of the material leading to slippage, as well as pain as the implant moves around. Some say that there has been organ damage as a result of these problems. Unfortunately, the use of polypropylene to strengthen the devices makes vaginal sling implants difficult to repair because of their longevity. It may be one reason why the Canadian woman is seeking expert help.

Just like in the case of World War I veterans, thousands of victims lead to doctors learning best practices. That is important because it normally takes several surgeries if there are any problems with a vaginal mesh implant. The costs of these can skyrocket, and the intense pain can make it difficult, if not impossible to work. Outside of the growing expertise of doctors, there is also help with recent awards obtained with the help of vaginal mesh implant lawsuit attorneys.

If these problems sound like those you’ve dealt with or what someone you know went through, these legal professionals may be able to help.
