Propecia Lawsuit Alleges Cognitive Impairment & Sexual Dysfunction
By Andrea Gressman
A resident of Oklahoma filed a Propecia lawsuit against Merck & Co. alleging finasteride sexual side effects, resulting from the hair loss medication. The Propecia lawsuit was filed on September 19, 2012 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The side effects were stated by the plaintiff’s Propecia attorney.
The plaintiff’s complaint in the Propecia lawsuit mirrors those of other Propecia lawsuits, claiming adverse sexual side effects, including decreased ejaculate, poor libido, and other complications.
Propecia Lawsuit Details: Finasteride Sexual Side Effects
The plaintiff’s Propecia attorney stated in the Propecia lawsuit that his plaintiff began taking Propecia in August 2010, at age 36, as a treatment for his male pattern baldness. The plaintiff did not suffer from any sexual dysfunction or cognitive impairment before he began using the drug.
After he started taking Propecia, the plaintiff began to experience adverse side effects, including severe sexual dysfunction and cognitive impairment. These side effects continued, even after he stopped using the drug. Even today, he continues to suffer from the sexual side effects of Propecia, according to the lawsuit.
The Propecia lawsuit claims that complications, which arose from the drug, have caused him significant pain and suffering, plus the drug has significantly diminished his quality of life.
Propecia Lawsuit Claims Manufacturer’s Actions Extremely Dangerous
The most important claim in the Propecia lawsuit is that Merck knew of the potential side effect risks Propecia caused. Not only did they fail to alert the public concerning the risks, but they concealed the information with intent to deceive. The plaintiff’s Propecia attorney stated that it is the responsibility of the defendant to reveal to the public all pertinent information of its drug, including its true character, quality, and nature.
Propecia Attorney Claims Negligence
The defendants in the Propecia lawsuit are hit with seven charges, which include strict liability, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, violation of unfair and deceptive trade practices acts, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
As with other Propecia side effects lawsuits, the plaintiff seeks compensatory, special, punitive and/or exemplary damages for injuries suffered and for the corrupt and vile acts of the defendants, which he described as wanton, willful, fraudulent, and reckless. He is demanding a trial by jury.
