Paxil Birth Defect Lawsuit Removed to Federal Court

By Andrea Gressman

Paxil birth defect lawsuitIt has been reported that on February 14, 2013, lawyers for GlaxoSmithKline filed a court notice to remove a Paxil birth defects lawsuit (Case No. 2:2013cv00806) to the Pennsylvania Eastern District Court.

The parents in this lawsuit claim that their child developed birth defects as the direct result of the mother taking Paxil while being pregnant. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Owen Weitzel, Jerome Weitzel, and Melissa Weitzel.

Paxil, also known as paroxetine, is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. This popular SSRI antidepressant received its approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1992. Since then, it has been linked to numerous cases of birth defects.
