Next Propecia Lawsuit Status Conference Just Weeks Away
By Andrea Gressman
There is more good news for the 259 plaintiffs who currently have Propecia lawsuits pending in the New Jersey MDL. The litigation process continues to move forward with the next status conference just weeks away. It has been scheduled to occur on March 7, 2013 in the New Jersey Superior Court in Middlesex County where the Propecia lawsuits have been consolidated. The Propecia lawsuit MDL is referred to as In Re: Propecia Litigation, MDL No. 623, N.J. Super. Ct.
Each plaintiff in the Propecia lawsuit MDL claims they experienced sexual dysfunction that was directly caused by Propecia. They also claim this dysfunction has been persistent in nature and has not gone away, even after they stopped using the drug. One Propecia lawsuit attorney recently commented by saying, “We continue to hear from men who have suffered persistent sexual side effects after they stopped using Propecia. We look forward to progress in this litigation in the coming year.”
There is also another Propecia lawsuit MDL underway in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York. It is referred to as Propecia (Finasteride) Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2331.
Propecia Side Effects
Propecia received its approval by the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) over 15 years ago in 1997. It was approved as a treatment for men who were experienced male pattern baldness. The way the drug works is by preventing the conversion of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a testosterone, in the patient’s body. This has been shown to stop the hair loss from occurring. But what was not accounted for was the side effects Propecia would cause in the patients by stopping the production of DHT, which has proved to be extensive.
There have been many Propecia lawsuits that have been filed because of the sexual dysfunction that the drug has been linked to. Some of these sexual side effects include the following:
- Erectile dysfunction
- Orgasm disorder
- Loss of libido
Finally, in April 2012, the FDA released an announcement that the label on Propecia would include an advisory pointing to the fact that there have been men who have experienced severe sexual side effects from Propecia, including the following:
- Problems with libido
- Problems with ejaculation
- Orgasm issues
It was also included that many of the men continued to experience these side effect issues even after they stopped taking Propecia. Men have also reported side effects involving poor semen quality as well as male infertility. However, these issues have been reported to improve and even normalize after the men stopped taking Propecia.
If you or someone you know took Propecia and experienced one or more sexual side effects, that could be grounds to file your own Propecia lawsuit. Through this avenue the plaintiff could receive compensation for the pain and suffering they have endured, the medical expenses they have acquired, as well as the lost wages the side effects caused.
