By Andrea Gressman
A new vaginal mesh implant lawsuit was filed on September 10th, 2012 by Patricia Latham. It is the plaintiff’s claim in the vaginal mesh implant lawsuit that the device caused her to suffer serious injuries as a result of severe side effects.
Vaginal mesh implants, also sometimes referred to as transvaginal surgical mesh, are often used as a treatment option for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP).
Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuit Multidistrict Litigation (MDL)
Latham’s vaginal mesh implant lawsuit was moved to the vaginal mesh lawsuit MDL currently located in West Virginia Southern District Court, and is referred to as case no. 2:2012cv05286. The vaginal mesh implant lawsuit MDL is being overseen by the Honorable Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.
Because there are so many transvaginal mesh implant lawsuits currently being filed, there have been a number of MDL’s created in order to expedite the litigation process.
As mentioned above, the vaginal mesh lawsuit filed by Ms. Latham was moved to the West Virginal Southern District Court. This vaginal mesh implant lawsuit MDL has consolidated many of the vaginal mesh implant lawsuits filed against vaginal mesh implant manufacturer, C.R. Bard, Inc. This is referred to as MDL No. 2187. Other vaginal mesh implant manufacturers also have vaginal mesh implant lawsuit MDL’s in place as well. These include American Medical Systems Inc. (MDL No. 2325), Boston Scientific Corp. (MDL No. 2326), and Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon, Inc. (MDL No. 2327).
