Mentor ObTape Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuit Alleges Serious Injuries
By Andrea Gressman
On September 20, 2012, a woman from California filed a vaginal mesh implant lawsuit against Mentor Worldwide, LLC, the manufacturer of the Mentor ObTape vaginal mesh implant. She filed her vaginal mesh implant lawsuit with the assistance of a vaginal mesh implant lawyer, who helped her case join dozens of others pending in the Mentor ObTape lawsuit MDL in the Middle District of Georgia. The plaintiff claims severe injuries resulting from the Mentor ObTape Transobturator Sling. The vaginal mesh implant device is designed to provide reinforcement for weakened or eroded muscles located in the urethra.
Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuits Cite Complications
The plaintiff claims she used the Mentor ObTape bladder sling implant as treatment for incontinence related to urinary stress on February 27, 2006. The manufacturer discontinued the vaginal mesh implant device in 2006, just three years after it was introduced in 2003. The decision to discontinue use of the transvaginal mesh implant device came after the surfacing of complications with the device itself occurring after surgery.
When weakened pelvic muscles no longer have the ability to sufficiently control the flow of urine, it is known as stress urinary incontinence. Childbirth, menopause, or other body functions may cause this condition. After the surgery, the plaintiff claims in her vaginal mesh implant lawsuit to have suffered abscesses, internal and external scarring, many simultaneous infections, and erosion related to the mesh device. She has stated that her pain and suffering related to the ObTape vaginal mesh implant device will most likely be permanent and will possibly have to undergo more surgeries to help alleviate some of the issues she has been dealing with. In her vaginal mesh lawsuit she states that foreknowledge of the potential side effect risks linked to the vaginal mesh implant device would have prevented her from using it altogether.
Vaginal Mesh Implant Lawsuit Claims a Failure to Warn by the Defendant
The vaginal mesh implant plaintiff, as well as those who filed similar vaginal mesh implant lawsuits, states the defendants were knowledgeable about the side effect risks linked to the device and should have provided warnings alerting patients and physicians of the potential side effects risks associated with the device. Allegedly, the defendants knew the potential for their product to incur severe internal injuries, yet they were hesitant in recalling the vaginal mesh implant device.
