Xarelto Drug LawsuitThree siblings recently filed a lawsuit against Xarelto after the death of their mother, alleging that she died of Xarelto life-threatening risks.

The plaintiffs allege that their mother, the late Florence B., died after suffering from unstoppable internal bleeding from the use of Xarelto.

The lawsuit was added into a multidistrict litigation, or MDL, in Louisiana. The Xarelto MDL is comprised of around 14,000 cases.

According to the lawsuit, Xarelto’s manufacturers, Janssen Pharmacetuicals and Bayer Healthcare, purposely concealed information about Xarelto life-threatening risks from the public, the FDA, and the medical community, placing patients—including their late mother—at risk.

The plaintiffs claimed that Xarelto’s makers informed the FDA and the community at large that the drug was safe and effective, but that in fact, the drug was far from safe.

Indeed, the lawsuit alleges that Xarelto life-threatening risks of serious bleeding problems do not have a reversal agent, and cannot be counteracted in emergencies, placing patients at serious risk.

The lawsuit calls the decision to sell Xarelto without a viable antidote was made with a “callous, reckless, willful, depraved indifference to the health, safety, and welfare” of patients, including the plaintiffs’ late mother, who died of internal bleeding complications, a major Xarelto side effect.

By the end of 2012, over 2,000 reports had been filed with the FDA over Xarelto life-threatening risks, including 151 cases that ended in fatality.

What is Xarelto?

Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is a relatively new blood thinner medication, manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a prominent subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Xarelto is a popular new blood thinner, and has dramatically increased in popularity since it was first introduced.

Xarelto is prescribed to treat blood clots and conditions related to clotting. Blood clots can be very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal, which makes new blood thinner drugs like Xarelto very popular.

However, despite Xarelto’s popularity, a growing number of lawsuits are being filed over the medication.

According to such lawsuits, Janssen knew about the potential dangerous side effects about Xarelto, including excessive bleeding problems, yet failed to adequately warn both consumers and the medical community about these Xarelto life-threatening risks, thereby placing patients at serious risk.

In extreme situations like a serious accident or an emergency surgery, the body forms blood clots in order to slow bleeding.

Patients taking a new blood thinner like Xarelto, however, may be unable to form these life-saving clots in these kinds of situations, and may suffer from Xarelto side effects as a result. Without an available antidote, patients may die from an injury that would otherwise have been curable.

Xarelto Life-Threatening Risks

Like any medication, Xarelto comes with a number of mild side effects that, for the most part, are not harmful and go away on their own without further treatment. However, Xarelto also comes with some more serious complications that some consumers may not know about.

Xarelto life-threatening risks include:

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleeding)
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Uterine bleeding
  • Hemorrhaging
  • Brain hemorrhaging
  • Hermarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces)
  • Bloody stool
  • Heavy vaginal bleeding

Filing a Lawsuit Over Xarelto Life-Threatening Risks

Filing a Xarelto lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has experienced Xarelto life-threatening risks, and cannot bring a loved one back to life. However, a Xarelto lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.

If you or someone you love has experienced severe Xarelto side effects like Xarelto bleeding, or even death caused by Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit.
