A Diabetic Took Actos for Four Years & Developed Bladder Cancer as a Side Effect of Actos Alleges Lawsuit

By Scott Hardy

Actos Pills Cause Bladder Cancer Allege LawsuitsA husband and wife filed a lawsuit against Takeda Pharmaceuticals alleging the drug giant’s diabetic treatment drug Actos (pioglitazone) caused the husband to develop bladder cancer. This couple opted to file their Actos bladder cancer lawsuit as co-plaintiffs. Actos bladder cancer lawsuits are being filed against Takeda Pharmaceuticals on a weekly basis. There has not been an update on the Actos class action lawsuit currently pending in federal court.
William Blumenstein and his wife, Kathy Jo Williams, filed their Actos bladder cancer lawsuit as part of the Actos multidistrict litigation in Louisiana. The Actos bladder cancer MDL allows thousands, and possibly tens of thousands, of Actos users to file bladder cancer lawsuits under the purview of one judge and a steering committee of plaintiff and defense attorneys. One of the benefits of filing an Actos bladder cancer lawsuit under is the MDL rather than file an Actos class action lawsuit is that those who file as part of the Actos bladder cancer MDL maintain individuality so they receive their own award once the case is won or settled. The Actos MDL is similar to an Actos bladder cancer class action lawsuit but different in that one key aspect. The Actos bladder cancer class action lawsuit automatically includes hundreds of thousands of Actos users if it is approved by a federal judge but if the Actos class action lawsuit settles each Actos user will most likely share the award (if they submit their Actos class action lawsuit settlement claim form on time.) Everyone who joins the Actos MDL will receive any financial award won or settled individually unlike an Actos class action lawsuit settlement.
William and Kathy Jo’s Actos bladder tumor lawsuit states that William started taking the diabetes treatment drug in 2004 to help control his blood sugar. As with many type 2 diabetics William’s blood sugar was high due to the disease. William took Actos as part of his type 2 diabetes treatment for four years. William stopped taking Actos in 2008 after he started to experience urinary problems and finding blood in his urine. William’s doctors investigated the problem and found a bladder tumor allegedly caused as a side effect of using Actos according to William’s lawsuit. William and Kathy Jo’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit alleges that Takeda Pharmaceuticals didn’t warn them, or William’s doctor who prescribed Actos, of the severe side effects of Actos which includes bladder tumors and cardiovascular problems. William states in his Actos bladder cancer lawsuit that he may not have decided to use Actos if he knew of the heightened risk of developing bladder cancer.
If you are a diabetic who is using Actos as part of your type 2 diabetes treatment it’s critical that you  are aware of the symptoms of bladder tumors and cancer. Typical signs of bladder cancer include tumors which may cause blood in the urine, painful or frequent urination, or straining during urination. In addition, other common signs of bladder cancer include fatigue, incontinence, weight loss and bone pain or tenderness. If you are experiencing these symptoms you should see a doctor immediately so bladder cancer or tumors can be ruled out or cancer treatment started if necessary. Bladder cancer treatment may include surgery to remove any cancerous tumors within your bladder. If you are experiencing these symptoms and are diagnosed with bladder cancer or tumors you should speak with an Actos bladder cancer attorney to see if you are a good fit to file an Actos class action lawsuit or an Actos personal injury lawsuit. William and Kathy Jo are seeking medical expenses and damages in excess of $75,000 according to their Actos bladder tumor lawsuit.
Sometimes bladder cancer due to Actos may lead to death and surviving family members may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Takeda Pharmaceuticals. In addition, in cases where the patient taking Actos develops bladder cancer or tumors survives, the spouse may be able to file a lawsuit alleging “loss of consortium”, even though the spouse thankfully didn’t die due to their injuries from Actos. In William’s case Kathy Jo has sued Takeda Pharmaceuticals for “loss of consortium” due to the bladder cancer William allegedly developed as a side effect of Actos. Thankfully William survived thanks to extensive and expensive medical care. William’s bladder tumors were successfully removed but he doesn’t know if the cancer will come back. William is now left with a cloud hanging over his head for the rest of his life, and will continue to experience high medical costs due to regular bladder cancer tests and treatment, allegedly due to Actos causing bladder cancer.
