Another NaturaLyte/GranuFlo Lawsuit Joins the Masses

By Andrea Gressman

GranuFlo recall lawsuitA number of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuits have been filed since the FDA issued a Class 1 recall earlier this year. It has been reported that a new GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuit has joined the masses. This GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuit was filed by Waddell Bishop in Georgia and names Fresenius Medical Care as the defendant.

Mr. Bishop claimed in his GranuFlo lawsuit that his mother passed away after undergoing dialysis that used GranuFlo or NaturaLyte acid concentrates. It is claimed in Mr. Bishop’s GranuFlo/ NaturaLyte lawsuit that his mother died because of complications involved in her dialysis. Mr. Bishop has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fresenius Medical Care because, according to the lawsuit, the drug manufacturer did not properly warn patients regarding the side effect risk of cardiac arrest that had been so prevalently linked to GranuFlo and NaturaLyte.

According to a New York Times publication on September 4, 2012, it has been reported that Fresenius Medical Care treats over 100,000 patients in American who require dialysis. It was also reported that a memo released in November of 2011 attempted to warn doctors in the Fresenius Medical Care centers of the potential deadly side effects linked to their products. However, Fresenius Medical Care made no attempt to warn anyone outside the Fresenius Medical Care network leaving thousands of patients at risk to the deadly side effects.

What is the Main Cause for GranuFlo and NaturaLyte Side Effects?

The main issue when it comes to the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects is the ingredient conversion in the patient’s body that results in an over-production of bicarbonate. Despite the fact that many other dialysis medications have these same ingredients, GranuFlo and NaturaLyte has more of it and when the doctors distribute GranuFlo and NaturaLyte they are not accounting for the different quantities of these ingredients. Therefore, an excess amount of bicarbonate is formed in the patient’s body and the bicarbonate has been linked to causing heart problems that have resulted in death.

The treatment of acute and chronic renal failure is an issue during dialysis treatment and that is where the use of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte comes in. However, due to the staggering number of deaths associated with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte, the FDA stepped in this year and issued a Class 1 recall, the most serious type of recall available to the FDA. The FDA was reported in saying, “Dosage errors may contribute to metabolic alkalosis, which is a significant risk factor associated with low blood pressure, hypokalemia, hypoxemia, hypercapnia and cardiac arrhythmia, which, if not appropriately treated, may culminate in cardiopulmonary arrest. This product may cause serious adverse health consequences, including death.”
