Consumers who purchased a Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer Go Mini or Deluxe that was subject to a recall may be eligible to benefit from a class action lawsuit settlement reached with Ingenious Designs and other defendants over alleged product safety concerns.
The class includes anyone who purchased a Joy/JM-branded My Little Steamer between Jan. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2020.
Anyone who is a member of the Joy/JM-branded steamer class action lawsuit settlement class also is covered by a voluntary recall of the steamers, which is underway.
Defendant HSN reached this agreement with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.
Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had claimed the defendant violated consumer protection laws, had breached warranty, and had become unjustly enriched by selling the My Little Steamer, which was allegedly unsafe for consumers.
The Court has not ruled in favor of the plaintiff or the defendants. Both sides have agreed to the steamer settlement in order to avoid the risks associated with ongoing litigation.
My Little Steamer class action lawsuit settlement benefits
The benefits under both the Joy/JM-branded steamer class action settlement and recall agreement are identical, and class members may only file one claim per steamer.
No duplicate claims will be processed.
Settlement class members who file valid claims for My Little Steamer models purchased between January 2018 and December 2020 will receive a full refund of the purchase price. Claimants must show proof of purchase, ownership, and destruction.
Class members submitting valid claims, including proof of purchase, ownership and destruction, for My Little Steamer Go Mini models purchased new between January 2015 and December 2017 will receive $8 for each unit.
Valid claims for My Little Steamer Deluxe models purchased between January 2015 and December 2017, accompanied by proof of purchase, ownership, and destruction, will result in a $12 cash refund.
Class Members filing valid claims on steamers purchased new before January 2015 or filing claims with no proof of purchase will receive an HSN voucher worth $8 for each unit for which proof of ownership and proof of destruction are provided.
The units must be defaced with a permanent and prominent marking, such as writing “RECALLED” or “DEFECTIVE” in black marker on the unit, and the unit’s electrical cord must be cut to make it inoperable. A clear, readable photo of the defaced unit or unit must then either be uploaded or attached with the claim form.
The defendants have stopped manufacturing, importing, distributing and selling the My Little Steamer in the United States.
A final approval hearing in the My Little Steamer settlement is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2021.
The deadline to opt out of or object to the settlement has passed.
There is no deadline for filing a claim.

I originally purchased steamers as Christmas gifts in 2004 ….. everyone was discussing how cute they were, so light and easy to use. S I purchased (7) in December 2004 then 2 more in March or April 2005 .. one for my boss’ wife and one for my niece. I did not purchase one for myself so I had no idea about this lawsuit until reading about it a few days ago. I contacted every person I gave this item as a gift and not person still has their steamer. Nor did anyone really have anything positive to say about them other than they leaked and one shot so hot their finger was burned. So I understand why they’re no longer around, what I don’t know is how am I to locate receipts for these units. HSN barely does anything for you – they won’t look up my purchases without either my account number or email address used and I’ve many many many email addresses since then so how am I supposed to remember what I used. Had I continued dealing with HSN I’d probably have that information but their stuff is basically crap, especially in the early 2000’s. I remember purchasing a small home humidifier for my daughter’s first apartment. This thing was giant size, i’m not kidding …. and it weighed at least 25#. My daughter is 5′ 2″ at a whopping 98# ….. she basically thanked me for the gift then proceeded to place in her closet after her first attempt at using. The thing was so loud it gave her a headache plus it wasn’t level so she wasn’t able to add water to the directed line because it leaked out.
After being told about this I called HSN and explained what had happened in probably march or April , I had previously purchased in December. First I was told the warranty was no longer valid, it had been 90+ days and I should have contacted them sooner. I explained that it was not as described, nor had it ever performed properly. I was then advised they could offer me an exchange only of the same model, etc. So this is when I let them have it because before I could open my mouth and ask why would I ever want a replacement for an item that pretty much sucked … before the following statement came from this pain in my butt representative ….. “you’ll need to return the item you wish to exchange for a replacement model within 30 days. Once received, a replacement will be shipped to the same address we have on file. You will be charged standard dely fees for the replacement item and you will also be responsible for all shipping fees related to the item you’re returning. I was sure I had heard wrong & asked her to please repeat her last statement. Nope, I heard correctly ….. it was at that moment I decided HSN was not worth my time, the products they offered were overpriced, poorly manufactured and lasted only a short period before either breaking down, falling apart or becoming completely useless after a fairly short period of time and I was going to not only advise her of my new plan to never deal with HSN again but that I would be calling my credit card company and simply reversing the charges for the item I had originally called about. We still had in house land lines at that time and I remember knowing I was going to slam that redeliver down as loudly as possible that day, and definitely enjoyed doing so. I have never purchased another item from HSN nor do I plan to and when I called in, that information they seemed to have yet they could not provide me with the email I used. So please explain to me how I can go about retrieving whatever documentation you need in order to return the whopping $8 i’m due for each unit purchased.
Not to be rude. but how the heck am I supposed to provide you with a picture of the item when they’ve been long disposed of. Do you normally keep damaged, broken, etc. items around just in case a class action law suit happens ….. Why are you making everyone jump thru hoops for this very simple to settle class action. Our time is valuable and I don’t believe the promise of an $8 settlement, once we find the receipt and then find the item, then create a photo op as proof of purchase …. especially when it makes no sense why both pieces are needed, either the receipt or the item itself, if you indeed have one or the other, should be sufficient as considered valid proof of purchase. Anyway,, I have no way of providing what you’ve requested so thanks anyway …. good luck everyone !
