Owners and lessees of 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee, 2015 Jeep Renegade, 2015 Chrysler 200, or 2015 ProMaster City vehicles may qualify for a class action settlement over allegations that Fiat Chrysler supplied defective automatic transmissions.

Lead plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler after they and other consumers allegedly experienced problems with vehicles containing a nine-speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission.

According to the Fiat Chrysler class action lawsuit, a defect caused loud noises and made vehicles difficult to shift into gear.

These problems allegedly occurred despite Fiat Chrysler’s marketing of vehicles with the affected transmission as incorporating the benefits of both manual and automatic transmissions.

The Fiat Chrysler transmission class action lawsuit states that the defect presents a safety hazard because with delayed acceleration and sudden loss of power, the driver doesn’t have full control of the vehicle.

The FCA class action lawsuit points to numerous complaints about Class Vehicles made with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Repeatedly, consumers report that their FCA transmission completely shut down on highways and could have caused a serious accident.

Under the terms of the Fiat Chrysler transmission defect class action settlement, Class Members who made at least three transmission-related complaints to an FCA US-authorized dealer could receive up to $2,000 cash or a trade-in value of up to $4,000.

Fiat Chrysler has also agreed to extend warranties on vehicles containing the 9 Speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission of the Class Vehicles to 6 years or 100,000 miles.

Class Members have until May 15, 2019 to file a claim in the class action settlement. Class Members who wish to object to or opt out of the class action settlement must notify the court by Jan. 2, 2019.

The final hearing will be held on Feb. 13, 2019.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members include those “who purchased or leased new, in the United States, for family, household, or personal use, and still own, one of the following vehicles equipped with a 9 Speed ZF 9HP Automatic Transmission: model-years 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee; model-year 2015 Jeep Renegade; model-year 2015 Chrysler 200; and model-year 2015 ProMaster City.”

To claim cash or trade-in value benefits, Class Members must have made at least three transmission-related complaints to an FCA US-authorized dealer before the date their class notice was made.

Potential Award

Up to $2,000 cash or $4,000 voucher.

  1. Karen Reynolds says:

I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and having the same transmission problems as this lawsuit and it is past the deadline to file. I was told today I probably need a new transmission but the warranty has run out. How can I get in this lawsuit?

  2. Dave Stansberry says:

My 2015 Jeep Renegade had a new transmission put in the summer of 2018 under warranty. The replacement transmission is now having the same issues as the first one.

  3. Luis Reyes says:

I had a problem with cherokee trailhawk 2015 transmission with only 37,000 miles, after the dealer applied the two remainings update recalls patches,. Then, they said the trasnmission needs to be replaced by a new one, paying about $5,016 , I heard about hundreds complaints from FCA Manufactures, I’m just look a decent reimbursment. If you need more info, let me know.

  4. Bobbie D says:

This is upsetting that since March 2019, I am taking my 2015 Jeep Renegade in for the same transmission problem but not able to do a claim as it is past the deadline date on November 2018. The claim states up to 100,000 miles but must have had the issue prior to a certain date. Well I am under 100,000 miles. All should be included up to the miles, not by a certain date. First Jeep and my last.

  5. Pamm says:

My 2016 jeep renegade latitude is experiencing these same transmission issues. I purchased it new in November 2016 I researched these issues others are having stalling out burning too much oil. I had made the dealer aware of these issues they stated at first found Fault U and reprogrammed the PCM nothing withe the TCM, telling me all was ok not to pull out in front of traffic. Told me transmission needs to learn driving habits. It’s the 948TE transmission still causing issues. Was in shop 4 times no issues found. Told them of these issues but since no current recall nothing they could do. Contacted FCA ,jeep,NHTSA filed complaints. Took jeep to factory authorized jeep dealer. They aware of these issues replaced valve body, replace transmission mounts and 2 other mounts. Now are replacing transmission.

    1. vickie says:

i thought i was reading the complaint I wrote… I have same exact issues. tranny mounts, muffler mount and engine mounts and new valve body and a new transmission in my 2015 renegade and YES the problem is still the same/

  6. Bill says:

    12/30/19
I’ve bee informed I have a leaking head gasket on my 2019 Renegade. 32,000 miles…
Does this extended warranty apply to that?

    1. Pamm says:

I would believe so make sure it’s definitely document and demand they fix it. My renegade latitude is 2016 and started issues in February 2019. Did tons of research on this 948TE transmission and engine issues, all was document at 29,000 miles. Took to a factory authorized jeep and they are aware of these issue, replaced valve body mounts and ordered new transmission stalling out issue rough driving etc
