Telmate, also known as ViaPath Technologies, has agreed to a $4.225 million class action settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2020 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.

The ViaPath settlement benefits individuals whose personal information was compromised in the Telmate data breach that occurred between Aug. 11 and 13, 2020.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit filed against Telmate claim the company failed to protect sensitive consumer information from a 2020 ViaPath data breach. The breach compromised names, contact information, financial data, Social Security numbers and other sensitive information.

Telmate is a communication platform used by correctional facilities. Telmate is owned by ViaPath.

Telmate has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $4,225,000 class action settlement to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the ViaPath settlement, class members can receive a pro rata cash payment from the settlement fund. The amount will depend on the number of valid claims, the amount of approved documented out-of-pocket loss claims and the remaining balance of the settlement fund after court-approved deductions. No documentation is required to receive pro rata payments.

Class members can also receive compensation of up to $5,000 for unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses more likely than not attributable to the ViaPath data breach. Supporting documentation is required to receive expense reimbursement.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 21, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the class action settlement is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2027.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 21, 2026.
